Kayode Praises Super Eagles Despite Early World Cup Exit, Eyes Return To National Team

By Johnny Edward:

Super Eagles striker Olanrewaju Kayode is confident he will be back in the team after being left out of the squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Olanrewaju admitted that it was a tough dealing with being overlooked for the 2018 FIFA World Cup but praised the team for their efforts despite crashing out of the tournament in the group stages.

“They gave their best even if some Nigerians were not too satisfied. It was a tough group that went into the last day,” the 24 year old who joined Ukrainian top division side, Shaktar Donetsk, from Manchester City permanently this summer told CSN.

“I believe I’ll be back in the team but if you had told be I’d miss the tournament (World Cup in Russia) I’d argue. It was a great shock for me but it’s in the past now.”

Nigeria finished third in the Group D standings with three points from three games behind group winners Croatia and runners-up Argentina.

Meanwhile Kayode’s wife, Zinny, on Friday through his foundation paid a visit to Living Fountain Orphanage in Lagos to give out donations and gifts.

Zinny on behalf of her husband revealed that the gesture is part of his foundation to help the needy in Nigeria.

“Nigerians deserve to live a better life, but the government alone cannot do everything. It is left for organisations and individuals who are in a position to also help those in need,” Zinny told CSN.

Nigerians beware this is another Ighalo. Kayode is pacy but lacks finishing and technique. I will prefer Henry onyekuru to this one.

From fry pan to fire kayode worst pass Ighalo very soon I will stop keeping contact with Nigerian football if we don’t get the right materials for our football because the heart break does not seem to be coming to an end any soon

Hallo kayode! Your speed could have troubled that attacking and no defence Argentina team! Coach Rohr decided otherwise and went ahead and crashed Nigeria pitiably!

Talking about Strikers, it a pity that a country of 180 million people with a passion for football cannot produce a world class striker in the ilk of Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto, Roger Milla, Abubayan etc.its obvious that despite having one of the best midfield and defense in Group D we couldn’t make it because of poor attack.NFF must snub Nepotism in this regard and send scorts to comb and nooks and crannies in the world:home and abroad in search of strikers with a good goal conversion rate. The emphasis shouldn’t be on the league but on goal conversion rate and technique. Super Eagles created dozens of chances against Argentina but strikers let them down

Gbam you got it. I was sad to see how lokosa was played out of position and dropped because he plays back home. Black mind with white man who has a black brain

  • We only need some one who can support ighalo and he need service from the back idiotic people with thinking.

Where de mumu nigerians wey dey defend ighalo during friendlys matches, why didnt ur prolific striker ighalo convert those two chances.

actually we dont need a prophet to foretell us that ighalo will not score any goal at WC. except a mistake goal vs cameroon.

Like CJ there is VACANCY for super eagle attack infact every position including coach, because we dont need these lazy youth who not aggressive

  • Kayode Olanrewaju was the highest goal scorer with 24 goals and also won the Austrian Bundesliga best player of the season 2 seasons ago. Manchester City noticed his talent and bought him last season. I believe it’s because he has been consistent over the past 3 seasons prior to that performance in the same Austria league where he was the 3rd joint top goal scorer with 13 goals and the joint 3rd goal scorer in the Isreali first division with 13 goals. But despite his performance, the coaching crew deemed him not fit enough to be called and even when called, he was given limited time to prove himself. I noticed Rohr’s body language to stick with players that qualified him for the world cup and his unfairness to drop Kayode from the team. If Kayode made the squad,by now he would have been qualified to meet the UK work permit requirement that will enable him play for Manchester City but bad belle and envy made sure he didn’t even make the 28 man list. Simy who has done nothing in his football career was preferred ahead of Kayode who has played in UEFA competitions and won individual awards. Anyway, now he is in Shakhtar Donetsk where he has won MOTM in just 4 matches and was nominated for Shakhtar Donetsk player of the month of April. I don’t think Onyekuru is even near Kayode when it comes to talent and ability to score goals. His performance and goals against Roma. I hope Rohr and his coaching crew would choose players based on merit and not based on past glory or nepotism. Thanks
