Keshi Begs Abuja Fans To Cheer Eagles

Disturbed by the apathy of Abuja fans to live football matches at the 60,000-capacity Abuja National Stadium, Super Eagles boss Stephen Keshi has appealed to them to turn out in large numbers to cheer Nigeria to victory against Sudan on Wednesday.

Keshi who has yet to play a competitive match at the Abuja National Stadium said he has been updated with reports that Abuja fans don’t like football and that they don’t watch live matches and that is what informed his fear about playing in Abuja.

“I challenge Abuja fans to prove the doubters wrong by filling every space at the National Stadium and cheer the Super Eagles to victory against Sudan,” Keshi told Complete Sports.

“A capacity stadium will ginger the boys to raise their game and get a result. We need Abuja fans to give the kind of support that will force Sudan to succumb.

“Of course I want to win my first competitive game at the Abuja National Stadium and I want the fans to help me do that by making the kind of noise that will make the Sudanese fumble and give us the needed win.”

  • We do not need the crowd to help intimidate the Sudanese to beat them. You have killed the Super Eagles to the extent that the eagles now need the crowd to beat common Sudan. Ba se je, obi tin so lerun…..

  • Beat Sudan silly on saturday and Abuja Stadium will be full to capacity.

Keshi is playing on emotion of Nigerians; the same people he ignored their call to forgive players like Uche & Obasi to play for their country. Keshi has estranged Emenike &polluted the minds of players in the camp, so much that he ignores tested players who now lack motivation & now go for local players who he can manipulate. It will not be a shock if Sudam defeats Nigeria on Wednesday. Then Keshi will admit his failure we hope.

I totally agree with Emi beat Sudan on Saturday and wait for full capacity stadium in Abuja. I also agree with Enoch Keshi has polluted the Super Eagles camp with untested players and home based players that he can easily manipulate, I don’t know why he keep on inviting these players at the expense of tested ones that are readily available. On the goalkeepers issue is time for us to start grooming new keepers as we know Vincent and Ejike don’t have more than 3 to 4 years playing time, or abi na Egbim we dey groom to take over. Alampasu should be invited to the team to start learning from now.

  • I join the queue of people saying that eagles should beat sudan silly and await a full capacity stadium on wednesday, and i also think that what brings fans to the stadium is impressive players who make rave reviews at their various clubs week in week out and not unknown players who rarely get playing time at their clubs. I.e, someone like moses would have brought more fans to the stadium if not for the injury he sustained because he’s been stamping his authority at stoke this season, martins, ike uche, obasi, osaze (if fit) these guys would have made more fans angling to see the match live. That’s my humble opinion

@emmyrandy: we all filled the Abuja stadium when our star players including Martins, Uche, Obasi and a fit Osaze failed to beat Tunisia in the qualifying series for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Mba’s inclusion in AFCON 2013 was heavily criticised, but at the end he turned our messiah at the AFCON.

Keshi is in charge of the eagles and he should be allowed to do his job as he knows best.
