Keshi Recalls Ike Uche, Snubs Martins, Obasi

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Returnee Super Eagles chief coach Stephen Keshi has sensationally recalled Villarreal of Spain striker Ikechukwu Uche back into the Eagles fold nearly two years after his last appearance for the Nigerian national team.

Keshi and Uche had a long-standing strained relationship which elicited mixed reactions from Nigerian football faithful.

Keshi had vowed never to invite Uche to the national team as long as he remains the Eagles boss, but following his recall to the team after he had been relieved of his duties and replaced by Amodu Shuaibu on interim basis, Keshi has now yielded to the demands of fans of the resurgent striker by inviting him for Nigeria’s crucial 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Congo and South Africa alongside 24 other players.

However, there was no place still for Seattle Sounders striker Obafemi Martins in Keshi’s squad. Keshi had claimed martins was too ‘old’ for the team and should give opportunity to the younger players. Keshi further resisted pressure to introduce Flying Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho to the team.

Iheanacho though will concentrate on the Nigerian U-20 assignment for the 2015 African Youth Championship in Senegal and most possibly, the U-23 team for the All African Games with Samson Siasia back in the Dream Team saddle.

Surprisingly though, Schalke of Germany attacking midfielder cum winger, Chinedu Obasi was left out of the team, likewise Victor Moses, who only missed the last two round of games against Sudan due to injury.

Keshi handed a first senior team opportunity to Nasarawa United midfielder Tony Edjomari.

The Big Boss has recalled to the team, home –based defender Solomon Kwambe, while Aaron Samuel (who got one of the goals against Sudan), Hope Akpan, Sunday Emmanuel and home –boy Emem Eduok have further chances after being called for the matches against Sudan.

Regulars like captain and goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, Mikel Obi, Ogenyi Onazi, Emmanuel Emenike, Godfrey Oboabona, Elderson Echiejile, Ahmed Musa and Babatunde Michael are also invited.

All the 25 invited players are expected to report at the Bolton White Apartments, Wuse, Abuja on Sunday, November 9.

The Super Eagles squad for Congo and South Africa:

GOALKEEPERS: Vincent Enyeama (Lille OSC, France); Austin Ejide (Hapoel Be’er Sheva, Israel); Chigozie Agbim (Gombe United, Nigeria)

DEFENDERS: Elderson Echiejile (Monaco FC, France); Juwon Oshaniwa (Ashdod FC, Israel); Efe Ambrose (Celtic FC, Scotland); Solomon Kwambe (Sunshine Stars, Nigeria); Godfrey Oboabona (Rizespor FC, Turkey); Kenneth Omeruo (Middlesbrough FC, England); Azubuike Egwuekwe (Warri Wolves, Nigeria).

MIDFIELDERS: John Mikel Obi (Chelsea FC, England); Ogenyi Onazi (SS Lazio, Italy); Hope Akpan (Reading FC, England); Raheem Lawal (Eskisehirspor FC, Turkey); Omatsone Aluko (Hull City, England); Tony Edjomari (Nasarawa United, Nigeria).

The Invitation List is out. Ike Uche is on the list. Will that be enough to save Nigeria, maybe, but probably not. The question i have to ask is who will supply the ball to the strikers. Emenike is is not a bad striker the problem we are having is the poor supply of service. Nigeria’s big problem is the link between midfield and attack.

I support Nigeria 100% whoever is in charge, but even a blind man can see the the plot for Nigerian football. Nigeria will most likely get a draw in Congo. Which will mean Nigeria fails to qualify for AFCON 2015, other African Countries will start to call Nigeria Super chickens again, Nigerian fans will protest during game vs South Africa in Uyo shouting and insisting Keshi must GO. Nigeria will beat South Africa in Uyo to no avail. Then people like @Saint Palmer, Taribo West, Danagogo and Chris Giwa will somehow try to convince Nigerians that it is right for Keshi to be given a long term contract to build the team.

This is the drama that is going to unfold over the next few weeks. The question at the time will be will Nigerians allow Keshi to be imposed on them by was is now turning out to be a Football Cabal? A CABALOCRACY, Nigerian football is now football of the cabals, by the cabals, and for the cabals.

Now that Coach Stephen Keshi has selected his players, we all must give him the needed support to succeed. He has to work on the fitness of his players. The players tends to tire out especially in the second half of their games. The midfield has to be mobile as there should be quick transit from Defence to attack and for this to happen we need fast midfielders and this is where I get uncomfortable with Mikel Obi who tend to slow things down. We need to work on our defence as they need to be strong and disciplined. Importantly, the players must recognized the enormity of the task before them and report to camp without any delay. The more training time they have together, the better blending they will achieve. If I may suggest to Keshi, he should arrange a match with any of the local teams on Tuesday 11/11/2014 or Wednesday, 12/11/2014 to help the blending of the team. He may call it a practice session, but the faults in the team can immediately be seen and rectified instead of waiting till the match day. Keshi go for it. Avail yourself this golden opportunity to win back the support of Nigerians and your fans who have lost hope in our qualification and confidence in your ability.

@Isaac Akinmoyede i admire you confidence. You see this as a golden opportunity for Keshi to win back the fans by qualifying the team for th AFCON 2015? Nigeria needs to score 3 or 4 goals in Congo if Nigeria win by a 1 goal margin or we has to win by a clear 2 goal margin.

@Isaac Akinmoyede do you really beleive that Nigeria will beat Congo by 2 goals in Congo on an Astro pitch he way Nigeria has been playing recently under Keshi? What Magic do u expect him to perform in Congo? It will be a miracle of biblical proportions in Nigeria gets the required result in Congo under Keshi. I will support the team regardless, but this is no golden opportunity. From a football point of view Keshi cannot out smart or outplay Congo and Claude Leroy away from home.

I think keshi cannot qualify nigeria for morrocco, why has he invited ike uche now that he knows there is nothing the young can do, so that when he fail he will say nigerians imposed uche on him, he should have been allowed to go.

Keshi will surprise Nigerians against Congo’s match and when that happened people will then believe in super eagle of Nigeria. Again about mikel obi, i said noting is wrong with mikel’s playing because he can’t give more than he have.

    GOD Bless Nigeria
