Klitschko Retires From Boxing, Rematch With Joshua Talks In The Cooler

Ukrainian heavyweight boxer, Wladimir Klitschko, has announced his retirement from boxing, ending the prospect of a rematch against Nigerian-born British heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

According to reports on Thursday, the 41-year-old had been deliberating over whether to take on Joshua for a second time this year, with a fight provisionally agreed for Nov 11 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

He has now decided not to go ahead with the rematch hence his decision to call it a day.

In their first meeting, Klitschko was knocked out in the 11th round by current champion Joshua at Wembley Stadium in April.

Reacting to Klitschko's retirement, Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn wrote on his Twitter handle:"I heard the news this morning from Bernd Boente that Wladimir Klitschko has decided to retire from boxing. We wish him all the success."

A gold medallist in the super-heavyweight category at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Klitschko once held the World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF)and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) titles.
