LaLiga Hails History Maker Uzoho For Helping Super Eagles Beat Iceland

By James Agberebi:

Spanish LaLiga Santander have hailed Francis Uzoho for helping the Super Eagles beat Iceland 2-0 to get their Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign back on track.

In the Group D encounter played in Volgograd on Friday, Ahmed Musa struck twice to give the Super Eagles their first win of the tournament.

Early in the game Uzoho was the busier of the two goalkeepers but he made good saves to prevent the Super Eagles from going behind.

“RC Deportivo´s Francis Uzoho helped the @NGSuperEagles secure a key victory against Iceland!” the Spanish top flight organisers tweeted moments after the match.

Uzoho, at 19 years and 237 days old, became the second youngest goalkeeper in history to keep a clean sheet at the World Cup on Friday; only Li Chan-Myong was younger.

Uzoho will hope to be at his best when the Super Eagles take on Argentina in their final group game on Tuesday.

Uzoho is going to end up being in the class of great goal keepers to come from Africa in years to come. He’s got everything to become a goal keeping great. Even Enyeama wasn’t this good when he started in 2002. Cool, calm, collected. Excellent in aerial balls, confident in one-on-one situations, a good height and physique. I see greatness in the young. I heard he’s also a graduate of the much revered aspire academy in Qatar.
