Nigeria's Bode Abiodun has qualified for the semi-finals of the men’s singles event of the 2017 ITTF Challenge Seamaster Nigeria Open holding in Lagos, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Abiodun is the only Nigerian player left in the tournament after Saturday's play.
Medal hopefuls, Aruna Quadri, Kazeem Nasiru, Olufunke Oshonaike, Cecila Akpan, Abosede Odusanya, Ganiyat Aruna all failed to make it to the last four of their respective event.
Ninth seed, Abiodun defeated India’s Sanil Shetty, 4-3 (12-10, 11-7, 13-11, 10-12, 9-11, 5-11, 11-6) in a tension soaked clash.
Abiodun will face another Indian Sarthak Gandhi for a place in the final of the tournament in Sunday.
The other semi-final will see Egyptian ping-ponger, Omar Assar, take on Marton Szita of Hungary.
In the women's doubles semi-final event, the pair of Cecelia Akpan and Effiom Janet lost 3-2 (11-5,2-11,10-12,11-7,8-11) to Egyptian duo of Yousra Helmy and Dina Meshref.
Both Helmy and Meshref will face Hungarian pair of Balint Bernadett and Pergel Szandra.
