Lawal: Super Eagles World Cup Debutantes Will Be Highly Motivated In Russia

By Adeboye Amosu:

Former Super Eagles midfielder Garba Lawal is happy with the team’s preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and has backed the side to make a huge impact at the competition, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The three-time African champions started camping in Uyo for the competition last week before proceeding to Port Harcourt on Saturday, where will face Democratic Republic of Congo in a friendly game today.

All the 30 invited  players except  Chelsea winger, Victor Moses, who is  expected to link up with the team in London, promptly reported  to camp and have been fighting hard in training.

Lawal believes that with the hard work put in by the players in training, he is confident they will excel in Russia.

“I’m happy with our preparation for the World Cup. Everything has been going on smoothly since the players started camping in Uyo and we hope they will maintain that,” Lawal, who was part of the Super Eagles team to the 1998 World Cup in France, told CSN.

“When you prepare well for a big competition like the World Cup, then you have big hopes that the team will do well.

“It is also clear that the players are highly motivated too. Most of them will be playing at the World Cup for the first time which is a big incentive too.

“I believe we have a team that is good enough to do well in Russia.”

Gernot Rohr’s men will play in Group D at the World Cup with Argentina, Croatia and Iceland.
