Leicester Boss Praises Iheanacho Impact, Hopes He’s Fit For Arsenal Clash

By Johnny Edward:

Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare has praised his new signing, Nigeria striker Kelechi Iheanacho, while hoping he will be fit for the English Premier League season opener against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Friday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Iheanacho, who completed a £25 million move from Manchester City to Leicester City on Thursday, limped off just after 17 minutes on his debut for his new club after coming on as a substitute and setting up a goal in their 2-1 pre-season win over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday.

Shakespeare told LCFC TV: “He’s fine in there. He’s getting a bit of a ribbing from the players in terms of him coming off.

“You can see the impact he’s had. We’re just really making sure that was more of a precaution. He hasn’t trained very often, he hasn’t been able to because of circumstance.

“The more minutes he can get on the pitch, the more liable he will be to last 90 minutes.”

With striker Islam Slimani and midfielder Danny Drinkwater doubtful for the Arsenal fixture, Shakespeare is hopeful Iheanacho will be fine for the Emirates clash.

“I’m still looking to find out, I don’t know whether it is ankle or achilles but he seems fine,” Shakespeare added in the Leicester Mecury.

“The first thing is the physios and they aren’t showing great concern which is a good sign.”

Iheanacho’s Super Eagles teammates Ahmed Musa and Wilfred Ndidi are clear of injuries ahead of the 2017/2018 campaign.
