Libya Vs Nigeria: Aina Starts As Rohr Maintains Winning Team In Sfax Showdown

By Adeboye Amosu:
Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, is expected to keep faith with the same set of players that defeated Libya 4-0 in last Saturday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying contest in the reverse fixture tonight (Tuesday) in Sfax, Tunisia, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Torino of Italy defender, Ola Aina will take the place of the injured Shehu Abdullahi in the only expected change in the starting line-up for the match billed to hold at the
Stade Taïeb Mhiri, Sfax. Kick off is 7pm Nigerian time.

Aina came in as a replacement for Abdullahi who copped a harmstring injury early in the game against the Mediterranean Knights at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo.

Young goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho who spent time with the team’s physiotherapist before joining the rest of his colleagues in training on Monday evening will maintain his position in goal.

The duo of William Troost-Ekong and Leon Balogun will continue their formidable partnership in central defence, with Aina and SC Paderborn of German defender, Jamilu Collins to man the right -back and left back positions.

The trio of Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo and Alex Iwobi will continue their combination in the middle of the park like they did to good effect in Uyo on Saturday.

Stand-in captain, Ahmed Musa and Samuel Kalu who scored his first international goal for Nigeria against the North Africans will operate from the flanks.

Hat-trick hero from the first-leg, Odion Ighalo will lead the Super Eagles charge for goals once again.

  • Victory in Jesus name. Amen.

  • It’s a good thing to maintain a winning team but the Libyans are quiet strong in the midfield which made them enjoy greater ball possession, I was expecting additional midfielder Ogu to replace Musa and The trio of etebo, ndidi and Ogu at the midfield to starve the Libyans of ball possession and press them higher to rub them into making errors.
But all the same an early goal will settle the nerves and just like the first match they appears to be slow starters we’ll have been in 3 goals lead within the first 20 minutes of the match if we had taken our chances. No harm done replicate your Uyo performance and the job is half way done.

    • Yeah…I had the same thought…3-5-2 that converts to 5-3-2 when defending. Just thought that the change would surprise Libya since they’d be working to stop our usual formation. Any way, the players are good and they should come out on top today.

Samuel Kalu was wasteful and selfish. Hope the coach has cautioned him.

We now have an opportunity to top the group as South Africa’s game ends draw. Lets go for victory.

    • They are already vowing to beat Nigeria in their next game in November. Lol. They say it’s a do or die affair. And I trust their boastful and talkative Baxter to boost their ego again. I can’t wait for that match!

  • I dare to say that South Africa will not qualify from this group.
If they can not beat a team they defeated 6.0 just four days ago and can not beat Libya in their own back yard, it is over for them.

Libya will beat them in Tunisia and beat seychelles in their country that will give them 10 pts.

If SE is serious they should win all their remaining matches, and get 15 pts.

    lets go.

  • Let pray we conquer today.again and again Am going for the best result let be hopeful today. And not saying we cant do it again.let just pray for the best result.

  • Does anyone remember the link to watch the match that was provided by Uncle Chima recently?
    Thanks.

As Super Eagles about to play their second leg match with Libya, I wish them the best and the entire crew of the team.

However, this was what I’m talking about yesterday about coach Rohr.

He rediscovered himself and if he continues like he did on Saturday, I will be his number one fan again like I did before the world cup.

It’s not about 4-0 we gave Libya or about Ighalo that scored 3 goals in a single match or Coach Rohr but it is about doing the right things at the right time without sentiments.

I hailed Coach Rohr and Ighalo based on their performances on Saturday. If you did well let’s say it. Everything went quite well on Saturday.

The only thing I don’t like about Rohr’s attitude is that, he favored some players in that team. How would he played Sheu while you knew that he was not fully fit and he had Ola Aina in the squad?

If he coach Rohr and his team did better than usual in today’s match, I will celebrate with them again. That is me but I they failed Nigerians again, I will face the truth. Good luck Super Eagles. God bless Nigeria!!!
