LIVERPOOL will sack Brendan Rodgers and replace him with ex-boss Rafa Benitez, according to sensational reports from Italy.
According to Tuttomercartoweb, talks between Benitez and current club Napoli have broken down, with the Spaniard eyeing a return to Anfield.
The reports claim Liverpool will sack Rodgers at the end of the year following the Reds’ below-par start to the campaign.
The ex-Swansea man has struggled to match last season’s efforts, when the Kop narrowly missed out on a first league title since 1990.
Rodgers’ side crashed out of the Champions League at the group stages, and currently lie in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
Liverpool’s fall from grace has led to suggestions that top brass at the club will axe the Northern Irishman.
Benitez is understood to be keen on a return to the club, with his family still based on Merseyside.
The 54-year-old won the Champions League and FA Cup during his first spell at the club between 2004 and 2010, and is still a crowd favourite at Anfield.
