Lookman Scores Twice As Nigerian Youngsters Fire England Into U-20 World Cup Q/Finals

By James Agberebi:

Nigerian-born England U-20 forward Ademola Lookman was the hero for his team as he scored two goals in England’s 2-1 win against Costa Rica in the round of 16 of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea on Wednesday.

Lookman put England 1-0 up in the 35th minute before doubling the scoreline in the 63rd minute.

Costa Rica made it a nervy end to the game as Randall Leal scored in the 89th minute but England held on to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori and Dominic Solanke, who will join Liverpool ahead of next season from the Blues, and Tottenham’s Josh Onomah meant four players of Nigerian descent were also in action for England.

Liverpool’s youngsters Ovie Ejaria and Sheyi Ojo were however benched for the game.

England’s U-20s win against Costa Rica means they have qualified for their first quarter-finals at the U-20 World Cup since the 1993 edition in Australia.
