Mabo: Falcons Will Progress From W/Cup Group D

By James Agberebi:

Former Nigeria senior women’s national team’s coach Ismaila Mabo has tipped the Super Falcons to progress into the knockout stage of next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.

On Saturday, the draws for the women’s World Cup was held with the Flacons who are reigning African champions drawn in Group D along with USA, Sweden and Australia.

In an interview with Sports Radio 88.9 Brila FM, Mabo said he was unperturbed about the countries in the Falcons group, stating that with adequate preparation , the team will do well.

“As far as I am concerned, I am not worried about the quality of the countries in the Falcons’ group,” Mabo enthused. “History may repeat itself because in 1999 we were in the same group with USA, Korea and Denmark. We lost to the USA but defeated Korea and Denmark and progressed into the quarter-final.

“I am confident history will repeat itself, especially with good preparation we can go beyond the group stage.”

He stated further: “I am not afraid of USA and Sweden, we can beat Australia. And the fact that the number of countries taking part now has increased, makes it an opportunity for the Falcons to make it to the knock out stage.”
