Makinwa: Salah’s Exit Gave Real Madrid UCL Title

By Johnny Edward:
Former Super Eagles striker, Ayodele Makinwa believes the exit of Mohamed Salah in Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final cost Liverpool the game Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Salah was replaced just after 26 minutes in Liverpool’s 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in Kiev due to a dislocated shoulder injury.

And Makinwa says the injury to the Egyptian winger dashed the hopes of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

“They were out of ideas after he (Salah) was replaced due to injury, and that was because they didn’t have another plan,” Makinwa told CSN.

“It was so unfortunate that he left the game in that manner which gave the Real Madrid defence freedom and more time on the ball.

“The game was balanced a bit and We didn’t see Marcelo make those runs out of the defence.

“I hope these young Liverpool players will gain experience from this and do better next season.”

It’s a lesson to every coach never to build his team round one player.

it’s also another eye opener to coaches to employ hatchetmen against stars like Messi, CR7 etc. That foul was planned.

  • My hopes and prayers for the Super Eagles based on last night’s Champions League finals are:

    – That we have players that can come off the bench to provide moments of Magic.

    – That our goalkeeper trainers work extra hard to ensure that the goalkeepers to do not have the propensities to commit ghastly errors.

    – that the team can maintain full focus for 90 minutes and extra time.

    – that our star players do not succumb to tournament-ending injuries early in key matches.

    – that all our matches are played with the right level of intensity.

    – (and I know this last one is wishful think) like Real Madrid, we win the tournament (boy, won’t that be a dream come true!!!)
