Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has written off his team’s 3-0 Community Shield defeat at Wembley to Arsenal on Sunday as a blip, unrepresentative of what will happen when the Premier League begins.
The Citizens were missing a number of players for the curtain-raiser with Vincent Kompany,Pablo Zabaleta,Fernandinho,Sergio Aguero,Martin Demichelis,Frank Lampard,Bacary Sagna and Alvaro Negredo all missing.
Even so,Atsenal were impressive and goals from Santi Cazorla,Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud put Pellegrini’s men to the sword, leaving the Chilean promising to speak to his team to ensure they are rady for the kickoff of the Premier League this weekend.
‘During the first 45 minutes Arsenal scored two goals. We improved in the second half,we had chances but they had a chance and scored from it,”Pellegrini told BT Sport.
These things happen before the season starts. It was not the pace we played in pre-season but I will talk with the players and I am sure we will be ready to start the Premier League.
‘I think in the Premier League you have five or six teams who can win the league because all have a strong squad. We must demonstarte from the beginning why we won the title last season.”
Man City kick off their attempt to retain the title by travelling to Newcastle on Sunday.
