Man United Outsmart Stubborn Boro To Go Fifth

Manchester United defeated Middlesbrough 3-1 on Sunday to go fifth in the Premier League table and enhance their Champions League hopes.

Middlesbrough had not scored a goal in their previous four games and are now without a win in their last 10 games.

Marouane Fellaini, Jesse Lingard and Antonio Valencia scored United’s goals, whilesu substitute Rudy Gestede got Boro’s goal.

Manchester United took the lead in the 30th minute through Fellaini who got on the end of an Ashley Young cross to finish with a header into an empty net.

Lingard scored the second goal for United with a powerful shot in the 62nd minute of the game after a blistering run from his team’s half.

Middlesbrough however gave themselves a fighting chance with a goal by Gestede.

Gestede’s intorduction in the second half and that of Adama Traoure gave the team more attacking threat as their combination with Alvaro Negredo troubled the United backline.

Antonio Valencia made it three for United when he captalised on a defensive error by Boro backline to slot into an empty net.
