Maradona Blasts: Messi Is A Kid, Can’t Solve Argentina’s Problems

Maradona Blasts: Messi Is A Kid, Can’t Solve Argentina’s Problems

By James Agberebi

Argentina legend Diego Maradona has described national team captain Lionel Messi as incapable of solving the problems bedeviling the Albiceleste and has therefore demanded access to the team ahead of their crucial final World Cup group game against Nigeria on June 26 in St. Petersburg.

The two-time World Cup winners are on the brink of going out of the tournament after a surprise 1-1 draw with Iceland which was followed by a 3-0 spanking against Group D leaders Croatia.

Following the poor results, it is believed head coach Jorge Sampaoli has been at war with a number of his top players, including Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero who spoke out against the coach following the defeat against Croatia, suggesting he (Sampaoli) didn’t know what he was doing.

According to The Mirror, Maradona reckons Messi, who has been a shadow of himself so far in this year’s World Cup, has done well on the pitch but insists the Albiceleste skipper is not a leader.

He said: “Leo has played as well as he could, but it is difficult to solve the problems of your peers – and I should know. The kid is just not a leader.”

Maradona who led Argentina to their 1986 triumph in Mexico wants permission to speak to the squad in a bid to lift their morale ahead of the decisive group game against Nigeria next Tuesday.

“I played with my life whenever I got the Argentine shirt,” Maradona said.

“Legends like Simeone, Redondo, Ruggeri, Canniggia, Filol, Luque and Gallego did exactly the same.

“I want to be able to talk to the players and make them understand what it means to wear the national shirt.”

You can do whatever you want but sorry this is our time to beat Argentina in front of you Mr. Maradona. My advice to the Super Eagles! Please go back and watch Croatia vs Argentina match. I saw it in yesterday match that you guys tapped from Croatia’s style like calmness of the team. This is what needs to be done on Tuesday.

And don’t wait until 2nd half before you explode against Argentina on Tuesday. Lastly, don’t go for a draw in Tuesday match. We must beat Argentina this time around. Whay do we have to do So? We must break the jinx and 2, we must advance to he round of 16. God will help us to do so. Believe in yourselves. You can do it that is the spirit. God bless Nigeria!!!

You can say all you want Mr. Maradona or advice all you have. Nothing ain’t stopping us from beating Argentina. We didn’t come to Russia just to wear the best kits.
My advice to the super eagles: Attack from kick off to the end…starve messi of ball supplies and watch out for counters

maradona should shut up! messi has tried for argentina. he single handedly qualified them, if all things being equal, messi is good, but musa is better!

@MunaMuna, Maradona has a point. Messi is a star but I have never seen him be a leader. He’s no Steven Gerrard or Carles Puyol. He was a real leader. Argentina needs that right now because they have the talent on paper but they aren’t playing together and that signifies a lack of leadership. Arguerro should always take the PK’s and should start atop Messi. Then they would have a better attacking side.

The Super Eagles defeated Iceland 2-0 on Friday to enhance their chances of qualifying to the Round of 16 stages of the World Cup.

The positive outcome makes it imperative to then consider how to navigate the crucial last Group D match against Argentina.

takeaways from the Argentina versus Croatia match and how the Eagles can exploit the Argies’ weak areas.

    1. The Short Passes; Fast Breaks

The Albecelestie got out of jail a few times with Nicolas Otamendi and Nicolas Tagliafiko guilty of short passes that let to the Croats’ pressures.

The errors culminated in Croatia’s goal by Ante Rebic who scored after a Willy Caballero gaffe in the 53rd minute, volleying past the Argentinian keeper who wanted to be too stylish and smart chipping the ball above the winger with right back Gabriel Mercado waiting to receive it.

From the beginning of the Nigeria versus Argentina game, the Eagles must fly out of their traps and put their opponents under tremendous pressure

    2. Argies Struggled To String Passes

Argentina’s combination play were nullified most times with Lionel Messi and Kun Sergio Aguero not seeing much of the ball up top.

In the first 21 minutes of the game, both superstars barely touched the ball with Aguero’s only chance of putting the ball away just to tame to go past Danijel Subasic.

This could be put down to the ageing midfield pivot of Javier Mascherano and Enzo Perez.

The South Americans are reputed to be a team that love to dominate possession in midfield and could be run ragged by a younger Nigerian side who must ensure that they do not hold unto the ball for too long but make quick transitions.

    3. Eyes on Otamendi

The Manchester City defender is a threat from set pieces, running deep from defence to attack the ball. He possesses good headers, scoring some vital goals at club level from corners

    4. The Messi Decoy Strategy

Lionel Messi tend to come deep in midfield to pick up the ball and orchestrate attacks.

The ultimate plan is to release the ball to his teammates who must then find him when he runs into a good position up top.

The Eagles stars must follow Messi everywhere.

The five time Ballon d’ Or winner crafty and there is no guarantee such plans will work like is the case in the La Liga.

But at international football, Messi is not quite the same player and Gernot Rohr has to detail about two players on him when he comes deep to pick the ball and not turn attention to direction of the ball always.

    5. Frustrated Argies, Eagles Expect ‘Rough’ Treatment

The only way Argentina can advance to the round of 16 stage is a win over Nigeria.

The defeat to Croatia has seriously wounded the pride of this team whose last heavy defeat was a 6-1 hiding to Czechoslovakia in the 1958 World Cup.

Consequently there could be potential flashpoints and fouls from a desperate Argentina side whose reputation is at stake.

The Eagles must not be bullied the way Croatia started against them in their first Group game.

NOTE: Super Eagles should have it in mind that they will play against Referees and Argentina on Tuesday.

Eagles have to be ready for the Argentine’s set pieces. Super Eagles have no choice to commit free kicks in their 18 yard box. Nigeria must win this match against Argentina for two things.

1, we must qualify to second round.
2, enough is enough, we must break the jinx of not beating Argentina at the world cup. This is the game of their lives and must win for Nigerians, Africans and the whole of black raised. Do not fear Argentina. Big names doesn’t play football. Up Super Eagles Up Nigeria. Happy weekend my people. God bless us all. God Nigeria!!!

    @Omo9ja nice write up impromptu!

  • Nice write up but i disagree with you on special attention on Messi. of the two team that have played against Argentina nobody delegate player to mark him out but played their normal game by closing down every space. Giving him special attention might lead to unnecessary foul and you know he is good at set pieces. May God help us i belief this is our time to brake d jinx by beating them and it will be d most painful because that will retire Messi from national football. #soareagles

NEW OPEN LETTER TO COACH ROHR AGAINST ARGENTINA.
but you know we have to express worries and fears so that our dear super Eagles will sit up and observe our points during the games!
IGHALO should be politely relegated to training sessions material!
Elderson Ejiejile should be considered ahead of out of sought and purpose iduwo!
Simmy nwankwo should be considered a reliable substitute based on extremely tough Italian serie A!
Our group D is NOW more a complicated cases scenario all 4 team have mathematical chance of qualifying.
Nigeria destiny firmly in our hands!
Argentina match will be explosive and Animated!
Dump ARGENTINA ass outta of WORLD CUP will finally clean all their fuck up because they’ve been shining with us previously. So Super eagles this is your world cup proper final match. To loss yet again to Argentina will be Nigeria in Coma and hospitalized! The only one option is victory! Do not play for draw because you might lose. Target an outright win then worst cases scenario is draw afterall the referee are used to falling FOR ARGENTINA theatrical experience tricks in and around the penalty box pls watch out.
Against Argentina who are individually better than nigeria we must not expect any relaxed moments. Difficult sha but if they’re focus including our COACH we SHALL sail and soar through.

Oliseh should be told to bounce and fuck outta here damn it. Mediocre administration is a norm in Africa but dude foolishly abandon us and betrayed our love and support for him many years impromptu! We use to love oliseh so much but he forgot EVERYTHING and left our super Eagles in more disarray and we subsequently fail to qualify for the cup of nations. Oliseh NOW wants to identify with TEAM? Common sense no common for oliseh at all.

OBSERVED ANALYSIS TO SUPER EAGLES AGAINST ICELAND.
Congrats to all Nigerians. Na die i be dey! That musa need to be kicked in d ass a little bit.
Balogun started shakingly and so sluggish and slow but later grew himself into the flow of the game. Against Argentina who are now a sleeping lion who want to quickly wake up before going hmmm, if balogun continue to sleep and sluggishly slow ARGENTINA and the little fellow might score 2 goals before balogun remember to be more assured.
That second half team with Ebuehi who got some experience NOW, must start against THAT messi team! Omeruo is solid and must be more ruthless and decisive together with Ekong because that Messi team na brutal attacking lions!
Uzoho is ok but my dear against messi Argentina uzoho will be very busy let him prepare for steady onslaught impromptu! Uzoho should study AND practice set piece AND penalty stop! Uzoho is expert in quickly diving wrong direction even before the ball is kicked! After training pls let uzoho still train 2hrs more for penalty stop and set piece! Sleeping lion ARGENTINA will wake up against Nigeria even a fool knows that.
If Nigeria try that rubbish first half against ICELAND with Argentina hmmm, we will lose! That first half no single shot on goal, no deep penetrating runs behind defenders! No bite no urgency and no trying of things and they were afraid to make mistake! Maybe too stifling orders and instructions given by Rohr but if game plan ain t working instead of waiting for second half talk to change plans why not try things on ur own? Na GOD coaches be?
Ola aina could have been a better iduwo because that iduwo is not super eagles material at all. EJIEJILE should be managed in his place quickly! Oh no what a missed opportunity for Chelsea ola aina because of just russia language speaker we have disappointed ourselves and the trust of ola aina by dropping him even when we all saw him against Argentina friendlies That he is GOOD and promising! Nigeria go Russia go learn or speak language? Iduwo has no business in that team at all. Ola aina Nigerians are very sorry! We love you Ola. Truth lives forever! Against Argentina pls super Eagles must never loss that match infact with their lives they must fight from the first second. Tell all the players if they go dey admire Messi they will lose! I pity slow balogun and mikel against messi! Uzoho must prepare for the saves of his life! For all eleven players?? Na war front. Even if we loss we’d want to loss been proud we fought hard and did THE right things. IHEANACHO CAN HURT OTAMENDI! IF OUR DEFENCE CAN POCKET MESSI THEN EKONG AND CO WILL GET BETTER CLUBS SNIFFING AROUND THEM. BYE FOR NOW NIGERIA PLS VICTORY OR NOTHING.
