Obafemi Martins has revealed that he is ready for Seattle Sounders’ season-opener against New England Revolution at CentruyLink Field on Sunday.
The Nigerian striker who made his return in last Monday’s 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City in a final pre-season game when he tapped in an equaliser in the 60th minute from Clint Dempsey’s pass, is raring to go.
“I’m so excited that the league starts this weekend. We are ready, and playing at home we need the three points,” Martins told Seatle Sounders official website.
On his partnership with Clint Dempsey, the former Birmingham City striker said: “Clint is working hard, so I’m I. Our partnership will be better this season.”
Dempsey, 31, also scored 15 goals and 10 assists, forming one of the most potent strike partnerships in the league.
Martins’ impressive 19 goals in all competition last season helped Sounders, a perennial contender in the Western conference secure the MLS Supporters’ Shield, finishing the regular season with 64 points.
