Nigeria men's handball team earned their first win at the on-going Men's Handball African Cup of Nations after they beat Gabon 31-30 early Sunday morning (Nigerian time) inside the Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex Hall 2, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
In their two previous games, Cameroon beat Nigeria 24-16, while Egypt thumped them 34-20 in their second match.
The win over Gabon now move Nigeria off the bottom of the group to fifth on two points.
They will face Morocco in their next game which comes up on Monday Jan 25.
Hosts Egypt, who are top of Group A on six points, have advanced into the quarter-finals following their win against Cameroon which ended 30-20.
In second place is Algeria, Morocco occupy third spot while Cameroon are fourth.
Men's Handball African Cup of Nations serves as the qualifiers for the men's handball championship and the Olympic Games.
