The Complete Sports football team popularly known as the Okota Bombers got off to a flying start on Monday at the 2017 Lagos SWAN Cup competition powered by top betting company, Merrybet.com.
In their very first group game at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium complex in Surulere, Complete Sports demolish radio outfit 104.7 SMA FM 8-0 to make a strong statement about their intention to reclaim the title they last won in 2012.
The comprehensive beating was handed to the radio ‘schoolboys’ to teach them a lesson for daring to lace boots against the star-studded Okota Bombers with the goals scored shared among practically all the super players of the Complete Sports squad.
Having pummelled the radio boys with dispatch, the Ojeagbase Boys decided to be a bit merciful to their second opponents in Group B, Pooja.com whom they spanked 3-1 in a highly entertaining game.
Playing beautiful Guardiola-esque passing football to the admiration of the capacity crowd at the stadium, Complete Sports totally dominated their opponents and scored twice to establish their lead in the first half with John Chijioke grabbing the brace.
In the second half, the internet boys were lucky to pull a goal back against the run of play when Complete Sports goalkeeper while trying to clear a harmless ball, kicked the ball directly at the opponent which then deflected into the net.
However, the two-goal lead was restored when Spain-based forward, who Barcelona are eyeing as replacement for Neymar, Babatunde Alao, was introduced into the game. A quick exchange of passes by England-based Julius Ojeagbase and John Chijioke found Alao at the edge of the box and his left-footed shot sailed into the roof of the net for the third goal.
The news of the two victories promptly sent tongues wagging among other teams which prompted the organisers to subject several members of the star-studded Complete Sports team to random ‘drug tests’ which eventually proved negative. Thereafter, football scouts from PSG, Barcelona, Manchester City, Bayern Munich as well as UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid were seen making enquiries about the Complete Sports stars with the aim to lure them to sign for their respective clubs before the close of the transfer window.
The preliminary games will be concluded on day three of the competition on Tuesday with Complete Sports billed to take on The Nation newspapers and Voice of Nigeria (VON). It will be recalled that The Nation newspaper barely escaped with a 2-2 draw when both sides met in a friendly exhibition match to mark the 11th year anniversary of the company (The Nation) last month. This time however, the Okota Bombers have promised that there will be no hiding place for the Matori-based team on Tuesday.
Merrybet Online Sports Betting Company is sponsoring this year’s Lagos Chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria Games, tagged “SWAN Week’’ with N3.5 million.
