Argentine captain, Lionel Messi has picked eight players he thinks will shine at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia – but left out archrival Portugal captain and Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo as well as all the players from the other Group D opppnents from his list.
The three time African Champions who qualified for a sixth FIFA World Cup have in their ranks Mikel Obi of Tianjin TEDA, Alex Iwobi of Arsenal, Victor Moses of Chelsea and Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester but none was mentioned by the five time Ballon d’ Or winner.
“Brazil have Neymar and Philippe [Coutinho],” Messi was quoted in Manchester City Evening News.
“Spain have Andres Iniesta and [David] Silva. Germany don’t have any one star but they are very solid.”
“Belgium have [Eden] Hazard and [Kevin] De Bruyne. France have [Antoine] Griezmann and [Kylian] Mbappe.
“The tournament is full of very good players.”
Messi will be hoping to lead his side to a third World Cup glory in Russia having lost out in the finals in the 2014 edition in Brazil.
Argentina will kick off their campaign against Iceland before battling Croatia and Nigeria in group D.
