Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi believes that Nigeria’s Olympic Eagles will beat the Denmark in their quarter-final clash at the Rio Olympics men's football event despite losing 2-0 to Colombia in their final group game in the early hours of Thursday.
The Nigeria U-23s having qualified for the quarter-finals lost 2-0 to Colombia in the last group game in Sao Paulo. They will face Denmark on Saturday for a place in the semi-finals.
“We believe. The last African team left at #Rio2016 – now we face the Danish Dynamite @DBUfodbold in the 1/4 finals,” Mikel tweeted.
The Nigeria captain who is still gutted he didn’t carry the Nigeria flag at the opening ceremony as expected wrote in his column in the Evening Standard that the team is determined to carry on the momentum and keep winning.
“Regardless of the result against Colombia in our final group game everyone is determined to carry on the momentum and keep winning,” he wrote.
“There is no point being worried about anyone else in the tournament. After all the drama of getting here, the dream of winning the gold medal is the only thing on my mind.”
