–Set to host compatriot Aluko in Tigers visit
Super Eagles midfielder, John Mikel Obi responded in style to the barage of criticism that trailed his performance in Chelsea’s first loss in the EPL this season in the 2-1 loss to Newcastle United last weekend by scoring the Blues third goal in the 3-1 thrashing of Sporting Lisbon Wednesday in the last group match.
The Nigerian international was fingered by a section of the British sporting media last week for not doing enough to hold Chelsea’s midfield in the absence of super regular, Nemanja Matic who missed the Newcastle game through suspension. The issue generated a lot of reactions all through last week with majority of Nigerian fans rallying behind the embattled star in what they termed as harsh and unjustified criticism.
But with Mikel’s goal which happens to be his first in a Champions League game, the midfielder seem to have shut the mouth of his critics and the player will again be available for selection for this weekend EPL date which will see Chelsea play host to Hull City. And in this tie, Mikel could be playing against his compatriot, Sone Aluko who incidentally also congratulated him for his scoring feat against Sporting Lisbon.
Chelsea currently remain top of the EPL table while Hull have dropped into the relegation zone having picked only 2 points from their last five outings.
