How Mikel Dazzled In Chelsea’s FA Cup Routing Of Watford

Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi was rated one of the best Chelsea performers in Sunday’s FA Cup rout of Watford at Stamford Bridge.

The Nigerian partnered Ramires in the middle of the pack and was a delight to watch for all of the 90 minutes he was on the pitch and would have convinced boss, Jose Mourinho he deserves to keep the good run he has been enjoying especially in the last month of 2014 when he has become a near regualr feature in Chelsea’s line-up.

Mikel was rated by ESPN as one of two Chelsea players with the highest mark of eight after his stellar show.

Here is how ESPN captured his performance: “Provided perhaps the biggest surprise of the day with his usually wayward passing being both accurate and positive as he constantly looked to set Didier Drogba free in attack. Supplied an excellent shield for his back four in an impressive all-round performance.”

In the 17th minute, Mikel found Didier Drogba after a good footwork, but the striker was denied a chance to hold on to the ball and wreck havoc.

In the 33rd minute, Mikel sent a long ball which found Drogba but there was no support for the big Ivorian front man.

Meanwhile, Mikel’s compatriot Odion Ighalo played 65 minutes for Watford before he was substituted with Matej Vydra.

Mourinho praised two of Chelsea’s goalscorers – Willian and Zouma – for their performances
‘Willian is the kind of player that without scoring goals he gives so much to the team. He creates, he always has a good dynamic. When the team lose the ball he’s probably the first defender because he reacts in a very effective way, he presses immediately and recovers balls. Willian always gives us a performance.
