Chelsea's Mikel Obi has admitted that he deliberately fouled Lucas Moura because the Paris Saint-Germain forward was bearing down on goal during their UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash in Paris on Tuesday.
Mikel clipped Moura from behind which led to a free kick. Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored from the resultant free kick which deflected off Mikel.
"I had to foul him because he (Lucas) was going deeper and deeper into our 18-yard box," Mikel told the Daily Express. "I had to – if not get the ball – foul him, which I did.
"And then the freekick as well just skipped off my feet and went into the back of the net.
"But we came back strong as well, but we're very disappointed to have lost the game.
"We know they're a very good team. Our aim was to come out here and get a goal and we've done that.
"We still have the second leg to play back home, so we have to take that back home and capitalise on that and make sure we build on that."
Mikel atoned for his part in PSG's goal by scoring the equaliser – his second ever Champions League goal – but the Ligue 1 leaders went on to win the first leg 2-1.
