Super Eagles midfielder,Mikel Obi is favoured to make his first start tomorrow afternoon for Chelsea in the English Premier League this season following the unavailability of Nemanja Matic.
Matic will miss the trip to St James’ Park after collecting his fifth yellow card and his absence will mean boss,Jose Mourinho will have to break-up the Serb’s blossoming partnership alongside Cesc Fabregas with Mikel who is the big the favourite to come in to the midfield.
Mikel returned to Chelsea action Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge in the Blues’ 3-0 demolition of Tottenham Hotspur after five weeks of either warming the bench or sitting
in the stands.
Matic has been a key player for the table-topping Blues this season, but having coped just
fine without Diego Costa against Spurs, Mourinho has no fear of missing Matic against
“It’s not a problem that we won’t have Matic,” the Portguese boss said.
“We will play with another player. It’s like Costa against Spurs: did you remember he wasn’t playing? I didn’t.
“Obviously Matic is playing fantastic for us. But that’s the way we think, we will forget him for that match.”
