    I like this squad

Kayode needs to mature his game and finishing because football is not 100meteres sprinting game as for Henry and Ajayi I am sad for them not everyone can make the plane. AGU Akpeyi and Agbo has no business here

    • A keeper made mistake twice does not mean he is  not good. Quote me akpeyi is the best keeper in eagles for now. All he needs is confidence.watch him at s. A club

      • Adeniyi 7 months ago

Which yeye club level? Akpeyi…against Algeria in Uyo…out of position and conceded a goal any keeper in position could have saved…Akpeyi against South Africa in Uyo…clearly over and out…Akpeyi against Argentina in Russia…oga committed a school-boy error despite his experience…his errors and show of lack of confidence are numerous….i am surprised we are going to the world cup without a power striker aside Ighalo…what Rohr and his crew did to Ajayi and Kayode is clearly unfair, he never gave these guys chances to prove themselves. We need bullish strikers who can torment defense, Ajayi and Kayode are our best options to Ighalo since we neglected Adi of MLS…WHAT IS JOEL OBI, Mikel Agu and Echiejile doing in the team? Echeijile has the experience but we all know he has only been part of the team due to lack of good and natural left back. I really hope the selected players find their rythym before the WC proper…i cant endure another tournament of dejection by the SE biko!

        • Paschal 7 months ago

Worse still there are many injured players: Ndidi, Joel Obi, Etebo, Ebuehi, Moses Simon, Balogun et al. Let us pray they will be 100 percent when the world cup starts. If they are not, the coach should not just include them out of sentiment. Form matters a lot.

  • The squad is really fair. kudos to our coach.

  • Emmanuel 7 months ago

I don’t like agu, akpeyi, agbo others are good, but ajeyi jnr should make the squad

    • Lambert 7 months ago

Agu is going while ogu will drop.

    • Whether u like him or not, your opinion does not count on this matter.
The coach picks the player that fits in

  • fiyesimi 7 months ago

Henry and ajayi is 20 and 21 respectively,so they still have 4 years to still go,henry should focus on his fitness and everton future now, ajayi is also injured.

  • Chairmanfemi 7 months ago

Wow! Good squad. I also didn’t like the inclusion of Agu,Akpeyi and Agbo but My fellow Super eagles fan, don’t forget the list is going to be broken down to 23. So Agu,Akpeyi and Agbo will might just be left out of the squad.

  • Bestsports. 7 months ago

Good list! Oyibo na oyibo! Obviously Gabriel and ajayi and Nwakeame and kayode and samuel aeron must have failed to impress during many training sessions chances given. If you’re good then you are good! Umar and paul the tall striker can wait after the world cup! I feel sad for ideye but he isn’t stable with multiple clubs! Simy will make life complicated for ighalo and iheanacho! Lokosa na training material atleast to get experience! Ajiboye, stephen Eze, mikel Agu, uche agbo, lokosa junior is already minus 5 at the final 23 list! Two more MUST be drop. Will joel obi for once be injury free? If not he is gone! Could simy nwankwo be the found RaM striker? Coach Rohr over to you! Good coach atleast, at last super eagles have a consistent list of players unlike our local coaches phrase of always going back to the drawing board after taking bribe from journey players and agent. At the world cup proper we can only hope and pray! Croatia list of stars na big high blood pressure! I am afraid! I hope we manage to impress during tournament.

Ajiboye, Lokosa, Ogu, Eze, Agbo, Agu and Simmy could be dropped baring any injury concern. Good list. But I would loved Efe Ambrose instead of Stephen Eze in that defence. He has the experience and still very active in Scotland. Good job coach. This is a fair selection and no one can complain. Those are there are there on merit. Unlike the last WC where players like IK Uche, Obafemi Martins, Brown Ideye and even Joel Obi were dropped for the likes of Micheal Uchebo, Ucje Nwofor, Gabriel Reuben and Micheal Babtunde. We all know the terrible state of the bench which contributed to our loss against France in second round .

    • Lambert 7 months ago

Good. Ajiboye, Lokosa, Ogu, Eze, Agbo,Kenneth will go. Simmy likely the joker.

  • Daniel Akpeyi has no business in his list. Someone must tell Rohn the simple truth. Akpeyi is not right for Nigeria at the world cup. He had Hus chances and was even making small boys mistakes at grade A matches.

  • Father.JP 7 months ago

Hugely expected list of prayers. Got my reservations though.

I agree with most readers here on some names.

I still find it difficult to understand why a Dele Aiyenugba who is very experienced and plays regularly in the is real first division is not considered. Goalkeepers get better with age and he’s 34.

Also one would have expected an experienced hand like Ambrose Efe who can play at Centre Back and Right/Left Full Back respectively

I also thought the coach will look in the direction of box to box midfielder Ryan Sanusi, one of the few Nigerian born footballers captaining a first division team in Europe or elsewhere. He plays week in week out for Sparta Rotterdam and is miles ahead of Mikel Agu and Uche Agbo

These 3 footballers should make the final cut of Nigeria’s 23 man squad and even make the starting 11 all things being equal.

A combination of the energetic and combative Ndidi with the box to box Sanusi with Mikel playing ahead flanked by Moses and Iwobi is a mouth watering prospect any day any time.

But what do I know??? Am only a football enthusiast. The coach knows better and has decided. All we need do is support him.

Go Eagles, Go!! Let the rumble begin!!

As 4me i forsee d following players nt mkin d final 23; Dele Ajiboye, Stephen Eze, Uche Agbo, Mikel Agu, Joel Obi, Simeon Nwankwo & Junior Lokosa. Bt jst as gernot rohr took d bold step and ignore d following players Brown Ideye, Henry Onyekuru, Olarenwaju Kayode, Anthony Nwakaeme & Junior Ajayi. I foresee him mking a shock 23 wt 2 surprises which wil b b/w Uche Agbo, Mikel Agu, Joel Obi & Simy Nwankwo. l wish Henry was invited. His present manager did not help by not using him even once. Musa is in form but l am not so sure of Odion, we shall see how he comes up. The first Game is the sole determinant. Efe is getting old now. l like Eze, young and strong in the Middle. Uzoho is dependable now in goal. Kelechi is in super form right now. Moses should let him take the free kicks Rohr has done a good job. Thank you, couch.

The List is out….and I must say….Kudos to the Gernot Rohr led coaching crew and The NFF!!!
I did expect these names because about 98% of the players have being together during the qualifiers and past friendlies!!!
Just the exception of Simy and Jnr !!!
Well, in as much as I wanted a couple of players to be with the team, I cant fault this list at all…it is a creditable one!!! all I have to do now is get behind the team, pray for the lads and get myself ready to show for Russia !!!……SUPER EAGLES all the way!!!

Methinks there are too many defensive midfielders: Onazi, Ogu, Etebo, Agu, Ndidi, Obi. Apart from Mikel I dont see any other stable person there who can play the role of a creative midfielder except we want to use Etebo or Ndidi in that role. All the same its a good list. Wishing Nigeria success.

    • Ikeben 7 months ago

Creative midfielders include, Mikel, Joel Obi, Etebo and even Iwobi (As in present Arsenal role). So the list is rich in all departments.

    • chris 7 months ago

the list is balanced as some of these players can play both defensive and creative midfield like joel Obi , OGU , Etebo and Agbo

  • Samuel okon 7 months ago

Good squad to behold.but what happens to our experience goal keepers.in the like of Vincent enyeama, carl ikeme.because ezenwa is good for u 20 football, likewise some listed above.only Nigerian deportivo shot stopper, i could say has little to contribute.also musa should be check.thnk u.

  • This is what we have to offer,we know some other teams have great players, but we can’t start creating a Lionel Messi now to represent us,this is the best set of players Nigeria has to offer at the moment,at least they are the most in-form.what this team and coach needs now is our support,Ghana of 2010 didn’t have the Messi and Ronaldo in their team,On paper Costa Rica aren’t match to italy and England at the world cup in 2014 but we saw what happened..I believe togetherness, team work will see us through next month..I wish my darling super Eagles all the best..God bless Nigeria

    • Abbas 7 months ago

      Good list so far

    • Paschal 7 months ago

I also think the region where the world cup is played has a way of influencing players from that region to excel more. For example: Ghana in 2010 did well (tournament hosted in Africa). Costa Rica did well (tournament hosted in Costa Rica’s backyard: Brazil) Korea in 2002 did well (tournament hosted in Korea). That is why I strongly believe a European team will win this world cup and European teams will excel more than teams from other regions. I even feel that all four semi finalists will be European. I dont know much sha this is just my thinking aloud. But i still believe in surprises and that surprise will be Nigeria. Afterall Cameroon reached quarters in a region that is not African by any standard (Italia 90). Naija forever.

Great list.kudos to the technical crew led by Rohr. However,I expect some surprises on the final list.Goodluck Super Eagles!!!

  • Good list we got here! kudos to Mr G. R. & his crew. Ajiboye, Awaziem, Eze, Echejile, Agu, Agbo & Lokosa may be pruned out. I wish the S.E. a successful outing in Russia.
    Up Super Eagles!!!!!
    God bless NFF
    God bless Nigeria.

Why arguing about who is going & who’s not to go?
23 would latter be selected out of the 30. I wish the best legs should be taken..

  • Really decent selection of players. Here is how I see the strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats to this team’s chances in Russia.

Strength: The flanks have creativity, firepower, speed, precision and goals. Perhaps the strongest department of the Super Eagles would be the central/defensive midfield where potential is strong to thwart most opposing attacking initiatives.

Weaknesses: The goalkeeping department is may cause anxiety to some whilst there might not be enough deadly out-and-out strikers for us fans to boast about. Some would also argue that the attacking central midfield department lacks sufficient creative elements.

Opportunity: The key word is camaraderie. As a whole, the present Super Eagles squad is far greater than the sum of its parts. There is a healthy mixture of youth, hunger, desire, experience and capabilities to propel the Super Eagles to the quarter-finals – all other things being equal.

Threat: That group is bad. A highly determined and motivated Iceland; high quality and exquisite Croatia; actual World Cup contenders Argentina. If the Super Eagles somehow navigate out of this group, then the possibilities will be endless.

  • Ayphillydegreat 7 months ago

I can’t fault this list at all. Most of the players have been together for the most part of Gernot Rohrs tenure. Dropping seven out these 30 will be the most interesting decision coming from the gaffer since he took over the mantle. I know for sure that one goalie will be dropped. That will certainly be between Ajiboye and Akpeyi because Uzoho baring any loss of form, or fitness issue will be the undisputed numero uno. Ezenwa is already an established part of the team. It will take something extraordinary to drop him if he’s fit. Therefore, one of Ajiboye and Akpeyi will not make the final 23 IMHO.

Two amongst the defenders will not be in Russia. Eze is an absolute prospect who reminds me of the great gentle giant Uche Okechukwu when I watched him at the CHAN tournament, but the WorldCup in Russia might be too early for him. Between him, Omeruo and Awaziem one have to make way. The crystal ball is pointing at Eze among the trio. Awaziem plays in a top five league and he’s been ever present all through GR tenure. Omeruo already has a WorldCup experience so I think Eze might be the one to make way here.

One of Aina, Idowu, Ebuehi and Echiejile will be dropped. I don’t see GR dropping any of Balogun, Ekong and Shehu. So the battle will be between Elderson and Aina or depending on the fitness level of Ebuehi. Unfortunately one of those three will not be going to Russia. Echiejile has an edge based on experience so me feel one of Ebuehi or Aina will be dropped.

Two amongst the midfielders will be dropped. My ideal midfield for the Mundial barring any fitness issue will be Mikel, Ndidi, J Obi, Etebo, Onazi and Ogu. Mikel Agu and Uche Agbo can not match any of the aforementioned six in all ramifications.

Two will be dropped amongst the strikers. Lokosa has no business in the list talk less of him making the final 23. Dude will just be coming for the experience. That Simeon Nwankwo guy is a brute of a striker. His bicycle kick goal against Juventus is still fresh in the memory. A striker with that kind of ability should be going to the WorldCup, but it will mean that one of the other established strikers/attackers in the team have to make way. Unless the coach decides to drop three defenders or three midfielders to accommodate Nwankwo in the final 23. If paired with Kelechi upfront I foresee a devastating SuperEagles strike force in Russia.

Above all, whoever makes the final 23 among these lot will have to make it on merit when hostilities begins starting from the friendly match against DR Congo. #FLY LIKE AN EAGLE INTO THE FUTURE# SUPEREAGLES FOREVER!

    • On d goalkeeping department: Ajiboye will be dropped.
Defensive department: Eze,aina,Awaziem will be dropped.
      Midfield department: Agbo,Agu.
      Attacking department: Lokosa.

I am very happy for this list. Therefore, kudos to the coach Rohr and his crew.

Except for Akpeyi and Agu. Those two guys deserve not to be included in this list. I knew it. There is something behind this. I won’t be surprised if Akpeyi and Agu making the final list but there’s God.

These two guys really deserves to be in the final list, Simeone Nwankwo and Ajiboye.

It seems like coach Rohr likes young and tall goalkeeper which is good but for this year world cup, he should give this Ajiboye a chance and after the world cup, he can make Uzoho his no1 if he doesn’t leaves up to the task for the world cup. World cup is not a joke.

I’m very happy that we have a top striker we can rely on which is
Simeone Nwankwo. I don’t know about Junior Lokosa but I wish him the best.

I’m expecting Mr. Rohr to use these new player in this list because, I did not like what he did to Kayode, Osemeh and Ajayi. He didn’t give them enough of time to proved their worths.

Lastly, I don’t fear any team in this year world cup. Spain was beaten by Nigeria at the world cup 1998. So, this year is not exceptional these big teams. Watch out for Eagles.

The only thing that making me really scared now is the final 23 list.
Hopefully, coach Rohr would select the right players for the championship. So far so good. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • Kudos to the couch. That is the best for Now. He needs our Support.

Nigeria would not make it pass d grp stage and rohr must be sacked without pay.

For christ sake what is Mikel Agu doing here on this list.

    Great analyst.

  • U guys should let rohr work and leave d man alone, must everybody make d list.is it ryan sanusi whose team is about to b relegated or ayenugba who made us not to qualify for afcon 2012.i agree agu should not have made d list but u guys should let d coach work.as for agbo most nigerians hav not seen d guy play cus rohr hardly use him,i think d last i watch a match he played was wen he played at d u20s,and also he has been a regular for standard liege, these friendlies will test their ability to play so lets see wat these players can do.God bless nigeria.

    • Ayphillydegreat 7 months ago

We should allow the coach do is job, yet you’re also of the opinion that Mikel Agu shouldn’t have made the list. Is it not the same coach who put him on the list?

      • Paschal 7 months ago

Ayphilly your analysis made my day bcos it is simply super. Here is my own addition to it: Insofar as I so much love Ebuehi, I strongly think he may not be selected afterall for two reasons: he is just smarting out of injury and may not be 100 percent, second, he does not have advantage of a left foot as Aina does have. Secondly methinks Ryan Sanusi’s inclusion is like adding more defensive midfielder. I think that department is already saturated in the SE. What we need is an out and out creative midfielder. Apart from Mikel am wondering who else can do that job well enough: Iwobi? Etebo? Joel Obi? They dont play regularly as creative midfielders for their clubs. But right now I think we have only one option and that is Mikel. So AY i think that creative role is really where we need personnel not Ryan Sanusi.

        • Ayphillydegreat 7 months ago

I wasn’t the one who talked about Sanusi. That was @Father.JP post. Bestsports only added it to collaborate my earlier post. Sanusi ke? We have a phletora of options in that department. If I have to pick an attacking midfielder it will be Abduljaleel Ajagun not Sanusi.

  • ako amadi 7 months ago

The point now, and I believe Rohr sees it, is to start every one of the remaining friendlies with the eleven he will field on the 16th June against Croatia. It does not matter if the opponents are spying. We are also allowed to spy on them. The super eagles need to gel. There’s no place to hide now!

Good list but I think Ebuehi will be dropped and somehow I think Simeon Nwankwo will make it.

    • Irabor Kingsley 7 months ago

Awaziem will not make the list, this striker Nwankwo Simeon will go in his stead

  • Rohr is German and facies tall strikers, defenders. Nwankwo simeon is an added dimension in eagles attacking strategy. They will be left with just short strikers if he is dropped which could be a disadvantage. Stephen Eze is a rock solid upcoming tall defender. I will drop awaziem instead who can be clumsy sometimes. Ola aina plays both right or left back so tyrone ebuehi can be excused to gain more experience much later
