Mikel: Super Eagles Will Play Well, Get Good Result Vs Czech Republic

By Adeboye Amosu:
Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi hopes the team will better their performance of last Saturday’s encounter against England in today’s (Wednesday) friendly encounter against Czech Republic and possibly win the game too, reports Completesportsnigeria. com.

The West Africans lost 2-1 to the Three Lions of England at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday recovering from a slow start to post an impressive showing in the second half.

Gernot Rohr’s men will face Czech Republic in their final build-up game at the Rudolf-Tonn-Stadion, Vienna, Austria.

The West Africans lost 2-1 to the Three Lions of England at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

“The game against England was a good test for us, we played well in the second half. In the first half, we didn’t get going but after the break, we started playing,” Mikel stated in short video posted on the Twitter handle of the Nigeria Football Federation.

“We scored a goal and created more chances.

“Hopefully tomorrow (today), we can start well and get a good result. I urge all Nigerians to keep supporting us.”

Rohr is expected to make a number of changes in the starting line-up with the likes of John Ogu, Tyronne Ebuehi and Oghenekaro Etebo impressing after their half time introduction.

Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, is also available for selection after recovering from a harmstring injury.

The Nigerian Coach, Mr Gernot Gohr is a football technocrat, a fanatic, tactician & strategist in his own right. He was selected and hired to coach & qualify Nigeria for 2018 WC event as a primary assignment.
He has met that condition against very stiff and difficult oppositions.
Capt. Mikel Obi assertions are a true reflections of the development & strength of the NEW Super Eagles team.
Now, what has prompted this article is not what the Coach has achieved, but the wisdom with which he has dealt with the numerous hydra-headed challenges to go this far.
The Nigerian team, Super Eagles had struggled to find its balance especially in the last five (5) years after carting home the prestigious Afcon 2013 trophy for the third time.
The team shortly after undertook a journey on a free-fall. It lost all the factors & character that once made it a dreaded force in the continent and household name on the lips of Africans.
Qualification for AFCON became a herculean task. Coaches rolled.
Two (2) Afcon participations, back to back, ghosted pass while fans watched in horror the omission of Nigeria from the continental event. The real unifying force of Nigeria was in tatters. Eagles had fallen bitterly on its face, & went from being Super to cowed Chickens.
However, in only two (2) years span since Gernot Rohr was hired a revolution seemed to have occurred.
The same Nation, the same people, but a different approach seemed to have unlocked the windows of fresh air blowing across Nigeria. A new phenomenon was in the horizon; the rebranding of a national team.
The giant is once again rediscovering itself.
A new Eagle is born with wings strong and stretched, and ready to soar as never before.
Nff made a choice, fine. It is one thing to hire your man, but a different kettle of fish for your hired-hand to hit the ground running.
Gernot Rohr might mean several things to different people, but one thing is certain, he has used sound technical knowledge of modern football to wowed Nigeria fans.
Love him or hate the man, his tactical switch against England at Wembley is still a talking point in British media.
Gereth Southgate is trying hard to explain how that magical whiff by the German almost undid his first period advantage.
He was mesmerised & forced to commit his boys to beat a fast retreat into defending their lead and ward-off a repeat of a 2nd half national embarrassment experienced by mighty Argentina in the hands of the Nigerians.
With Rohr, fans talk more technically even amongst artisans, students and market women.
Everyone now knows about 4-4-2, 3-5-2, 5-3-2, 4-2-1-3 soccer formations & the names that could deliver on each format.
There is a renewed wave of interest, excitement, hope and support for the Mighty Super Eagles leading to the mundial.
Eagles are no longer “Chickens” but potential World Cup Winners.
Some Nigerians can swear on the graves of their departed loved ones that Eagles will Win the coveted trophy, while others can only pray that such should be a possibility.
June 2, Wembly, England saw over 10,000 Nigerians in the stands, mostly youths, proudly identifying with Nigeria in an epoch making event that has never been witnessed in the history of football in England.
Hope is rekindled for supporters to speak again with one voice. And, proudly so.
Though England ran away wit a slim victory which they still celebrate, like a WC victory, bcos it was a close shave wit national humiliation for the colonial masters if the switch in tactics had delivered the winning goals, enough to force Southgate into biting the dust.
The Coach, Rohr has spoken in soft, firm but assuring words that Nigeria will triumph at Russia 2018, from group stage, and to make it memorable for fans.
He has also humbly told the world’s media that he has a team that can challenge the bests and still come out good.
Rohr has kept his secrets very well to his chest, and have thrived more at playing mind-games wit the media which he tends to enjoy so much.
    What is my point here?
Friendlies are like laboratories, Rohr once opined, where a Coach carries out his experiments to determine & predict outcomes. The results matters nothing, but seeing players performance in different match scenarios and how their talents can be maximized is what truly counts.
I believe in the technical abilities of the Nigerian Coach to deliver as assured.
I believe in his judgment & choice of players without external interference.
I believe he can deliver on promise.
I call for patience & maximum support from fans to ensure he has the impetus & motivation to do his work without distractions.
Tonight is yet another laboratory experiment for the Eagles but we hope to see the mistakes of England eliminated. We also look forward to seeing good football.
    Nigeria love you, Coach Rohr.
    The Mundial is the focus..
Go, go & make us proud.
Thank you Nff for your informed choice.
    God bless Nigeria.
    God bless Naija fans!

    • Well said bro. Like u said friendlies are like experiments, we shouldn’t put too much emphasis on the result but how well the team plays, the cohesiveness and unity of the team. Even if we dont win the match today lets not start castigating the team, the SE will come good at the WC i can guarantee you guys that. The SE have goals in them they are saving them for d actual mundial. I think it’s better to score goals in the sundial than some meaningless friendly that don’t count for much in a wider scheme of things.

  • Happy to hear that our Engine is back in the name of Ndidi,up eagles
