Former Super Eagles defender, Danny Shittu has been released by his Championship side, Millwall, according to a report on the club’s official website.
Shittu, who won the 2015 PFA Player in the Community award edging his compatriots Hope Akpan and Elliot Omozusi to the coveted award was axed alongside 17 other players at the club who dropped to the League One of the English League.
Other players released alongside Shittu and Dunne are Nicky Bailey, Matthew Briggs, Dylan Casey, Richard Chaplow, Carlos Edwards, Sofiane El-Bekri, Ricardo Fuller, Denzel Gerrar, Jake Goodman, Magaye Gueye, Justin Hoyte, Stefan Maierhofer, Angel Martinez, Josh Siafa, Callum Webb, Martyn Woolford.
The former Watford, Bolton Wanderers and Queens Park Rangers played only 11 games and scored once in the out-going season.
Recall that the 35 year Shittu who has been capped 28 times by Nigeria re-joined Millwall ahead of the 2012/13 season, a campaign which ended with the popular centre-back picking up the club’s Player of the Year trophy.
