Victor Moses was left out of Chelsea’s side that defeated Newcastle United 2-1 in a Premier League match at St James’ Park on Sunday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Moses has only made one substitute appearance for the Blues under Maurizio Sarri this season.
An own goal from DeAndre Yedlin three minutes from time secured Chelsea’s third win of the season and their first at St James Park in seven years.
Eden Hazard’s goal from penalty spot gave Chelsea the lead, but substitute Joselu restored parity for the Magpies with seven minutes left to play.
Despite Chelsea having much of the ball possession they could only get one shot on target in first half of the encounter.
The Blues looked dangerous going forward with Eden Hazard and Pedro Rodriguez going close to breaking the deadlock.
Newcastle also had moments of their own but Solomon Rondon failed to hit target from a corner kick.
In the start of second half, Cesar Azpilicueta had a good chance to shoot Chelsea ahead but he fired a lame shot at Dubraka in goal for Newcastle.
Antonio Rudiger also came close rattling the crossbar from 30 yards in the 72nd minute.
A fast counter-attack from Chelsea three minutes later saw Marcos Alonso fouled in the penalty area by Fabian Schaar.
Hazard scored to give the Blues the lead. The goal was Hazard’s 70th for Chelsea in the English Premier League.
The Belgian overtakes Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in third (69). Only Frank Lampard (147) and Didier Drogba (104) have scored more for the Blues.
But parity was restored when Joselu beat Arizabalaga with a thumping header from close range.
Yedlin’s slight touch on Alonso’s strike in the box condemned Newcastle United to their second defeat of the season.
