Moses Subbed On As Man City Edge Chelsea In Community Shield Clash

By Johnny Edward:
Reigning English Premier League champions, Manchester City defeated Chelsea 2-0 in Sunday’s Community Shield clash at the Wembley Stadium, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

A goal in each half from Sergio Aguero handed Pep Guardiola their first piece of silverware ahead of the 2018/19 season which kicks off this weekend.

Nigerian forward Victor Moses played for 12 minutes in the defeat for the Blues. Moses replaced Pedro in the 78th minute.

Both teams started off slowly, stringing poor passes, but it was Manchester City that took the lead in the 13th minute when Aguero fired in a low drive from the edge of the box after receiving a pass from Phil Foden.

The goal was Aguero’s 201st goal in 293 games for Manchester City.

Chelsea’s only attempt on goal in the first half came in the 30th minute when Callum Hudson Odoi forced a save from Claudio Bravo.

Manchester City had an early chance at the start of the second half but Aguero who ran at Chelsea’s goal from the middle fired his shot wide of the far post.

Aguero bagged his second goal of the game latching on to Bernado Silva’s pass to beat Willy Caballero with a low shot in the 68th minute.

  • If he plays his cards well, Victor Moses could reinvent himself as the ultimate utility player much like Liverpool’s James Miller.

As it stands, Moses can be asked to play as: Right winger, Right forward, Attacking midfielder, right defensive midfielder, right fullback and right wing back.

He can also switch to operate from the left.

My advice would be for him to continue building competencies in all these area to become the ultimate utility player who would be a dream manage for any coach.

He came on today against Man City and apart from a poor pass in the dying minutes, Moses held his own in tensed midfield.

It remains to be seen whether Moses will remain in Chelsea’s main squad moving forward as the right-wingback position that brought him much prominence has now been made redundant in new coach Sarri’s formation.

  • On another note, our own Etebo had a debut to forget in the English Championship today as he was most underwhelming in Stoke’s midfield who were spanked 3:1 by Leeds Utd.

I managed to watch the second half and saw how Etebo laboured in Stoke’s midfield in a display that left much to be desired.

He passed back often and laboured to little effect to stamp his authority in the midfield.

He did complete a number of ‘routine’ passes which did little to hurt the opposition.

Rating Etebo’s performance, Keith Wales writing for stokesentinal.co.uk stated : Etebo – The temperature was almost as hot as Russia, but sadly he wasn’t, during a tough introduction to English football 5/10.
