Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is hoping his side build on Saturday’s home win against Norwich when they take on Maccabi Tel Aviva in Tuesday night’s Champions League game at the Sammy Ofer Stadium as he expects Diego Costa to continue scoring.
Mourinho who returned to the dugout at the weekend after missing his side’s defeat to Stoke City warned his side not to be complacent as the clash with the Israeli champions will be crucial to their qualification.
‘We haven’t qualified yet but we are OK, everything is in our hands. If we play like we have been doing we can win,’ Mourinho said in his pre-match conference.
“Tomorrow is simple: if we lose, we are in trouble. If we lose we depend on other results.
“If we get a draw we can qualify in the last game, but we cannot be first.
“If we win, maybe we qualify tomorrow and we have a big chance to finish first.
“We need points tomorrow. We are playing to qualify so the game is more important for us.”
Mourinho also hoped Diego Costa can build on his goal against Norwich after the Spanish forward ended his mini-drought with the winner against the Canaries.
He said: “For a striker it’s always important not to be for a long time without scoring, because they feel the pressure.
“For him I think to score and to score the winning goal can have a positive influence.”
