Mourinho Not Carried Away By United Start, Expects Shaw Back Soon

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is not over excited by his side’s winning start to the Premier League season and has reiterated his stance on the early closure of the transfer window and states that clubs in England should not lose more players of they are unable to buy.

The Premier League body are proposing an earlier close to transfer activity which will be debated by the 20 Premier League clubs and could come into effect if 14 clubs out of 20 in the top flight endorse the new plans.

“You have to adapt to the situation, it doesn’t matter what. As a football manager, not a marketing man, as someone who wants to work with the players, I would prefer the window to close as soon as possible,” Mourinho said during his press conference on Friday ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Swansea.

“Everyone knows the players we have. The deals would have to be done earlier. At the moment you have a situation where a player could play game number one for one team, and for another in game number two. Are we in danger of losing players in last couple of weeks as I have heard?

“I would say how many clubs are powerful enough to buy best players in Premier League? The risk is minimal. If we cannot buy we are not going to sell.”

Mourinho responded to question on signing a new winger for the club having been linked with Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic and Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.

The former Chelsea manager added: “I don’t think we are unless something happens to put us in the market again. My plans were four, but I also told Ed Woodward, ‘no pressure from me, do what you think is best for the club’.

“We will be together for transfer windows in January and next summer. No pressure from me at all. I am happy with the squad we have. I am ready to go without the fourth player.

“My club did phenomenally well. I had four targets, we got three before first match. My club did great work. Also nobody is in doubt (about their future).”

Mourinho also reflected on his team’s first game of the season, a 4-0 defeat of hapless West Ham and calls for caution.

“I am too stable and too experienced to lose my discipline and stability and think 4-0 makes us dream team. We are not. We have more confidence than last season. More time, more happiness, more relaxed in way we play.

“I am calm. When I look to last match, I like many things. The challenge is to repeat the same kind of performance. Good tactical discipline, clean sheet, good football, good dynamic in attack.

“The three subs came to the pitch and even for five minutes players like Jesse Lingard performed at the same level.

In the stands, I have good players I did not even select. Last season we started three matches, nine points – and finished sixth.”

Mourinho then delivered some good news on the injury front as he revealed Luke Shaw and Ashley are set to return from long-term injuries.
The manager said he expects Shaw and Young to play for the United Under-23s in the Premier League 2 match against Swansea City on Monday night.
