Chelsea could be ready to swoop as Marseille are reportedly prepared to listen to offers for star man Giannelli Imbula in January 2015.
According to the Daily Express, the French club are open to offers for the French under-21 midfielder whom Jose Mourinho sees as ideal replacement for Super Eagles star, John Mikel Obi.
Arsenal and Chelsea have been strongly linked with the Belgian-born star in recent seasons.
Before Imbula swapped Guingamp for Marseille last summer, he was linked with both Arsenal and Chelsea.
And the report claims Chelsea may reignite their interest in the player this January as they look for a younger and cheaper alternative to John Obi Mikel.
Chelsea were looking to offload the Nigerian star who will be on duty in the Eagles’ 2015 Nations Cup qualifiers against Sudan.
Mikel Obi will get his British passport in October, a development seen as one reason why the former youth international is not to leave Stamford Bridge.
Press reports have dubbed the 22-year-old midfielder as the ‘new Patrick Vieira’ as his style of play reportedly resembles the Arsenal legend.
The rangy midfielder is capable of getting up and down the pitch, and he’s gifted on the ball as well as being strong in the tackle.
At Chelsea he would be likely to take a more considered path to the starting lineup, as he would face formidable competition for places with Nemanja Matic the entrenched starter in the holding role.
