–Says it is not good for football
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has launched a jibe at Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo after mocking the concept of individual awards.
The Real Madrid star is the red hot favourite to land the World Player of the Year award for a second consecutive season after his incredible season.
Two of Mourinho’s players in Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard have also been nominated for Fifa’s team of the year but the Blues boss was scathing about such awards.
“The team is much more important than anyone,” the Portuguese boss said. “For me, that’s clear. And they have to think about the team.”
Asked if he’d seen award-winning stars start thinking they were bigger than the team, Mourinho appeared to make a dig at Ronaldo. “Yes, and not one or two – more. This kind of trophy is not good for football. This is why I don’t care about it,” he said.
“Sometimes it looks like we are looking for stars, we are looking for some people to be more important than others. And this is not the culture we want in this club.”
