Mourinho Suprised By West Brom’s Relegation Struggles, Defends Rashford Use

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has expressed his shock over West Brom Albion’s struggle this season which has placed them on the verge of being relegated from the Premier League.

United could add to West Brom’s relegation misery when the strugglers visit Old Trafford in Sunday’s Premier League clash.

The Red Devils are currently second on 71 points in the league table while West Brom are bottom on 21 points, 10 points away from safety with five games left to end the season.

“I am surprised the quality, the experience of many of the players, the squad, the stability of the past years, is a surprise for me they find themselves in this position,” Mourinho said during his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“I think a big challenge because they know that in football anything is possible until mathematically, everybody knows that, they know and they still smell a chance but every match that is played if they don’t get points then they are closer to relegation.”

Mourinho ruled out Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero for the game but revealed their are no other injury worries.

“Everyone is perfect, apart from Romero. ‘‘

“All the few players [who were injured] are ready to play.”

When quizzed on Marcus Rashford’s limited playing time since he took over as United’s manager, Mourinho posited that the young forward has actually made more appearances than any other player.

“If I was you I would go in another direction, he is the player with more appearances since I arrived at the club.”

And on whether he will be in the market for another striker, Mourinho said: “If I have more competitions for him (Romelu Lukaku) I have more competition for the other ones you are saying are not happy because they are not playing. I probably have to reduce and have a squad of 12 or 13 players.”
