Mourinho Wants Zlatan, Rooney Stay; Wary Of “Dangerous”  Bournemouth

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has hinted that Zlatan Ibrahimovic can extend his contract with the Red Devils.

Ibrahimovic joined United from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer on a one-year deal with an option for another year.

The former Swedish international has been impressive for United this season, scoring  26 goals in all competitions and helping them to the League Cup trophy with a brace in the 3-2 final win against Southampton last Sunday.

Mourinho says Ibrahimovic's successful first season could see him staying beyond the initial one year agreed.

"I see him staying with us, because the initial agreement was to come for us for one year, plus us to have the option for a second," Mourinho said in Friday's pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday's Premier League game against Bournemouth.

“So I see him staying with us after an amazing, successful first season. So I think Zlatan will be fundamental in the second year of this team.

“My feeling is that he’s really proud of himself, very proud of his success and his situation, so I see him staying with us.”

Mourinho revealed that long term absentee Luke Shaw and skipper Wayne Rooney will be in the squad against Bournemouth.

"Luke Shaw is selected for tomorrow, so you won’t need to have the guys at the Lowry taking pictures of the players, to see which ones are on the list,” Mourinho added.

“Luke is working hard, he’s trying to improve, he improved by the physical point of view I can say that by good dedication, specific work and now he needs some opportunities to feel alive, he needs minutes on the pitch to show evolution is not physical but globally because a player is not just a better physical condition.

“He (Rooney)is selected for tomorrow with possibilities to play – to start or to be on the bench.

“So, since the moment he decided to stay and help the team and to fight for the team, he is an important player for us, and I think by giving you these two little – or big tales – I’m telling you all the talk about Everton makes no sense.”

Mourinho is wary of a "dangerous" Bournemouth.

He added: “They are a very tricky, dangerous team, with quality and ambition, who are not afraid to play.

“They normally try to win matches and try not to draw.”

On United winning the League Cup final against Southampton and his own position Mourinho said: “The impact that the final can have on my future, I think no impact, I think it’s just a story that had a happy end and it’s one thing less to be worried with, finished. League Cup finished.

“So now we have the most crazy calendar fixtures that somebody can have but it’s for good reasons. This weekend is Bournemouth and we have to try and win the match.”

“I think Manchester United knows I’m not the monster people thought I was.
“I’m not such an arrogant guy and not such a difficult guy to work with.

“Until now, no-one runs away when I arrive at the training ground, so I think the people are quite happy to have me around and work with me.”
