David Moyes has expressed confidence that Victor Anichebe will prove himself with Sunderland despite the Nigerian's injury woes.
Anichebe joined Sunderland from West Brom as a free agent but has made just one substitute appearance.
The 28-year-old has not started a game for more than eight months, and hopes to return for next Saturday’s trip to Stoke, where the former Everton forward will go in search of his first goal since May, 2015.
“In the game against Palace, he jumped and landed and felt his groin a little bit,” Moyes told Sunderland Echo.
“But this was always the risk with Victor.
“He had injury problems at West Brom and didn’t play all of the games.
“We have brought him in, given him a chance to prove himself and I think he will.”
