Musa Fires CSKA Moscow To UCL Spot; Igboun On Target, Idowu Faces Relegation Play-Offs

By James Agberebi:

Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa scored in CSKA Moscow’s 2-1 home win against Anzhi on the final day of the Russian Premier League season on Sunday.

The win means CSKA finished second on 58 points in the league table and secure automatic qualification to next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Lokomotiv Moscow were crowned league champions despite losing 2-0 away to Arsenal Tula also on Sunday.

Musa, who only rejoined CSKA Moscow on loan in January from Leicester City, opened scoring for his side on nine minutes.

Anzhi were back on level terms thanks to Arsen Khubulov in the 33rd minute.

In the 61st minute, Vitinho scored what proved to be the winner for CSKA Moscow as they nicked automatic qualification ahead of Spartak Moscow who lost 1-0 at home to Dinamo Moscow.

Spartak secured a Champions League qualifying round spot for finishing third on 56 points.

Musa’s goal against Anzhi was his seventh in 10 league appearances for CSKA.

Also on Sunday, Nigerian forward Sylvester Igboun ended his seven-game goal drought as he scored in FC Ufa’s 5-0 home win against Tosno.

Igboun scored on 50 minutes to make it 3-0 in favour of Ufa who finished sixth this season and picked a Europa League qualification slot.

The Nigerian ended the season with seven goals in 26 league appearances.

And in the relegation battle, Super Eagles defender Bryan Idowu featured for Amkar Perm who settled to a 0-0 home draw against 10-man FK Akhmat.

Also in action for Amkar was 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner Fegor Ogude who was brought on in the 74th minute.

Following the draw, Amkar will now take on one of the two teams from the  National Football League (second-tier) in the Russian promotion/relegation play-off tie.

Musa, Allah believes in you and Nigerians believes in you too. 7 in 10 is a record that is hard to beat in Nigeria’s squad going to Russia. Don’t move away from this Club in the summer. Lead them in Europe next season. Don’t easily forget what Paul of Leicester did to you so soon.

    @Ahmed
Great decision going back to CSKA !!!
World Cup is holding in Russia and you are playing well for
your club…a top club in Russia…
You are getting more playing hours on top matches and you are scoring goals too…This has brought back your confidence !!!
My advise….see if you can make your loan a permanent one and walk your way back to a super-top Side in the future !
It has happened to a great lot of players … Retracing their career from a nose-dive situation to a top rated one!
Yes…you can do it, Musa !!!
You have the skills and yiu are a good player, Just keep working hard on the technics and tactics that you are having low outputs!!

    Kayode is dong same too!

It is clear that moving back to Russia is not a retrogression for you as some fans had claimed here before. What a timely decision! Sometimes in life, the only way forward is going backward, but we are mostly worried by what people would say.

  • where are dos mourking at Musa? D story as change? I pray 4 u, any tongue dat we rise against u in judgement shall b condemn and cash fire cos God is changing ur story Now. Musa gooo and shine…

I’m absolutely certain that you’re just kidding. Apart from the fact that he came from a football royalty, he’s also a top talent by his own standard amongst his peers he can definitely be counted. I’m sure you’re just kidding.

I hope Rohr is taking not of these development. I am happy for all the players and Nigeriens at large. Rohr should also look at or monitor this boy Simmy for possible inclusion in the team.

  • Anderlecht coach is a wicked man
I knew this since he insisted on onyekuru surgery,
I knew it will happen like this.
But wolfsurg coach labbada that man is a fool, and i believe he don’t even know how to arranged his father’s name well,
you try divok origin through out the season
    But no progress
And you give lot of chances to landry dimata
but stil going back with no win
    No draw.
but victor osimhen that score much goal on trainning and friendly matches
but you didn’t give chances to prove himself,
Just 3 start and some comeo appearances.

now you have relegated the team.

Labbada how you able to see and know good player
    when bearing that name,
even the name carry badluck. Mtcheeeew
