Musa Gets Heroic Welcome On Arrival At Al Nassr

By Adeboye Amosu:

Super Eagles forward, Ahmed Musa, got an heroic welcome upon his arrival at the King Khaled International Airport, Riyadh early Friday morning to begin his career with Saudi Premier League club, Al Nassr, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

A large number of fans according to pictures posted on Al Nassr’s twitter handle, trooped out out enmasse to welcome their new signing to the country.

Musa was first received by the club’s officials before he was mobbed by the large crowd who were excited to see their new signing for the first time.

The former VVV Venlo star joined Al Nassr from former English Premier League champions, Leicester City last week.

He managed four goals in 33 matches across two seasons for the Foxes before he returned to the Russian Premier League on loan for the second half of the 2017-18 campaign

He will look to help Al Nassr do better in the Saudi Premier Premier League next season following their third place finish last season.

They will begin their 2018-19 league campaign with a trip to Ohod on August 30.

Musa further enhanced his reputation after grabbing a brace in Nigeria’s 2-0 win against Iceland at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

  • I still can’t wrap my mind around why Musa chose to sign with this Saudi club. Would Rohr still invite him to the SE?

I.5 million pounds per month is not small money, my brother. He join the likes of Ighalo and Mikel to collect their retirement money. Mr Rohr will certainly invite him afterall Mikel and Ighalo are still in his plans. Super Eagels is a team not built on individual’s club. And if he does not invite him, no shaking, he has paid his dues in the national team(since 2010), won AFCON and set national record in the world cup. He has also played at all Nigerian age grade levels making serious impact. Having also held local highest goal record in NPFL at that time. So to me he has done enough to seek, his retirement benefit in Saudi Arabia. Let the likes of Kelechi and Iwobi go and prove their self he has done his best.

Guys for that money Musa did the  best thing.

  • Wow, great reception for Musa in Saudi and great points above by @Ikeben; I really could not have summed it up better if I tried.

I am happy for Musa and believe he deserves the wages and attention that this move brings.

In as much as the benefits of playing for “elite clubs” are well documented, different players are at different stages in their careers and Musa – having ‘been there and done that’ in European Champions League and World Cup competitions – believes it is time for him to pursue this sort of opportunity at this point in his career.

    – 7 match appearances at the World Cup.

    – 4 goals scored at the World Cup.

    – Over 20 goals and record goal scorer in the NPFL.

    – Many domestic titles in Russia.

    – Many appearances in European Champions League and Europa League matches.

To mention but a few of Musa’s milestones.

Yes, there are other players that have achieved way more than Musa but chose to stay and play in Europe. That is their choice; Musa has chosen to take another route and like someone said, he is free to choose to work wherever he likes.

Will this move jeopardise his chances to the national team, I shouldn’t think so. If countries like Brazil and Belgium can invite China-based players to their teams because of experience, then why not.

Touching down and seeing the warm reception, Musa said : ““I can feel the excitement and energy already.”

Musa, so can we from here. Go and have fun and continue to do Nigeria proud.
