By James Agberebi: Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa was on target for Leicester City U-23s but it was not enough as they crashed out in round three of the Checkatrade Trophy after losing 4-2 away to Oldham Athletic on Wednesday night.
The Checkatrade Trophy, also known as the EFL Trophy, which is in its 34th season, is a knock-out tournament for English football clubs in League One and League Two of the English football system, and also including 16 Premier League and Championship “B Teams”.
Also in action for Leicester was long-term injury absentee Robert Huth.
Leicester took the lead in the 43rd minute through Josh Knight but five minutes into the second half, Craig Davies made it 1-1 for Oldham.
Davies scored his second goal of the game in the 56th minute to make it 2-1 in favour of Oldham.
Musa got on the score sheet in the 68th minute to bring score to 2-2.
In the 76th minute, Anthony Gerrard put Oldham 3-2 up before Nigerian striker Temitope Obadeyi made the game safe for Oldham when he scored on 86 minutes.
Oldham will now meet Shrewsbury Town away in the quarter-finals on January 22.
