The National Open Boxing Championship kicked off on Tuesday 30th June inside the Indoor Sports Hall, National Stadium, Lagos.
The championship which is organized by the Nigeria Boxing Federation(NBF), will be used to select boxers who will represent Nigeria at the All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville.
In some of the bouts decided in the preliminaries on Tuesday, Salaudeen Nuru from Lagos Pioneer defeated Bright Okon from Cross River State, Taiwo Abiodun from Lagos State saw off Durojaiye Kayode from Kogi State, Tayo Olaifa from Benue State beat Borno State's Oluwafemi Daniel.
Also, in other bouts that took place on Tuesday, Alufa Aghogho from Delta State overcame Momoh Manaiye from Edo, Rabiu Tahuza from Kano State bowed to Olayinka Yusuf from Oyo State, while Akinolugbade Lukman from Nigeria Police Force got the better of Bulus Usman from Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp.
The national boxing trials continue tomorrow, Wednesday 1st July.
