Ndidi In Full Action; Iheanacho Subbed On, Bags Goal Assist In Leicester’s Home Defeat To Liverpool

By Adeboye Amosu:

Leicester City suffered their second defeat of the campaign following a 2-1 home defeat to Liverpool at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, reports Completesportsnigeria. com.

Nigerian duo, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho were in action for Leicester City in the game.

Ndidi started the game and was on for the entire 90 minutes. He has now started all four games for the Foxes so far this season.

His international teammate, Iheanacho came in for Marc Albrighton in the 61st minute. He provided the assist for Leicester City’s consolatory goal in the game.

Iheanacho has made three three starts for his club in all competitions this season and has scored once, bagged one assist, with two substitute appearances.

Saido Mane put Liverpool ahead in the 10 minute after he was teed up by James Robertson.

Brazilian forward, Roberto Firmino doubled Liverpool’s advantage on the stroke of half-time nodding home James Milner’s corner.

Liverpool concede their first goal of the season and it’s a comedy of errors.

First Van Dijk puts his keeper under pressure with a bad back pass. But Alisson then tries a Cruyff turn, falls over, and is robbed by Iheanacho.

The substitute puts the ball across goal where Ghezzal fires home.

Kelechi, keep working hard and stay focused without distraction, I see you emerging on top at the end of the season. A goal and an assist in your last 2 games is not bad. Today’s assist coming just 2mins after introduction is also a good sign. You still have a long way to go. But you are on track, just keep working, all your critiques will soon join and sing your praise.
The road to the top is usually not smooth, as many imagine. It is usually filled with put holes, twists and turns but the diligent will get there. I believe you will get there.

  • I wrote a time ago that James Maddison was one of the greatest threats to Iheanacho’s starting position due to the further forward attacking midfield/support striker role they both can potentially play.

However, a different dimension played out to me today when Damaray Gray (an out-and-out winger) was preferred to Iheanacho in the absence of Vardy, to lead Leicester’s attack against Liverpool in a meaty encounter – an unhealthy development for the young Nigerian.

As i predicted earlier, it appears that majority of Iheanacho’s starting roles, and goals, would probably come in cup competitions against lowly oppositions.

The Nigeria International has age and quality on his side hence with hard work and dedication, more starting roles in Leicester in big matches against meaty oppositions may yet come his way.

To his credit, Iheanacho embarrassed reacord-signing Alisson to rob him of the ball before threading a neat pass to claim an assist for Leicester’s only goal today – this shortly after coming off the bench.

The season is young and Iheanacho has shown much promise thus far. The signs are good, but how much opportunity he would get to strut his stuff in the real big matches remains to be seen (and crucially when he gets these chances, would he make the best of them to announce himself as a striker of high quality?) .

We will have to wait and see.

Yes, he may not be starting as you predicted. But the Iheanacho of Mancity under Pelegrini, did not need to start, to score a goal. Bring him 30 mins, 20, 10 or even 5,he is sure to be on the score sheet or have an assist. His strengths is in his instinct, he anticipates well and positions correctly and craftily kills off in the box.

Let him arise back to his potential that many saw years ago. He will put off all the competitors around and become a giant in Leicester city colors.

On the other hand, Transbozpor defeated Onyekuru’s Galatsary 4-0 today with Ogenyi Onazi opening the goal account, his first goal of the season and their new signing Anthony Nwakaeme scoring a Brace as well in his full-debut. Brian Idowu keeps on warming the bench for Lokomotiv Moscow week after week. Little known Holland-Nigerian striker/winger Arnaut Danjuma Greonelved(Who has showned interest in playing for Nigeria ahead of Netherlands) and Dennis Bonaventure were both on the score sheet for Club Brugge as they defeated Zulte-waragem 5-2 on Friday. Kelechi Nwakali was also in action for FC Porto B alongside Musa Yahaya as they defeated Academivo de Viseu 2-1 on Saturday. They were both subbed off later in the game. Have a lovely weekend.
