Ndidi Shines, Musa Benched, Iheanacho Out As Man City Edge Leicester

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was in action on Saturday as Leicester lost their Premier League clash 2-1 to Manchester City at the Etihad, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

It was the 15th Premier League game of the season for the Nigerian since his January arrival in England but compatriot Ahmed Musa, who has played 20 league games since the start of the season, was an unused substitute.

Kelechi Iheanacho who has played 19 league games and scored four times was not listed for Manchester City.

David Silva and Gabriel Jesus scored for Pep Guardiola’s City while Shinji Okazaki restored hopes for Leicester. The win takes City to third in the table with 72 points, two points ahead of Liverpool.

City took the lead in the 29th minute through Spanish international Silva. Leroy Sane produced a great pass that found Silva inside the penalty area, who took advantage of the situation to rifle a shot into the bottom right corner.

Jesus converted a penalty kick the 36th minute to take the score to 2-0 after Leroy Sane was fouled.

Leicester reduced the deficit when Shinji Okazaki fired in a first-time shot from about 13 metres out.

The game was interrupted in the 65th minute as Marc Albrighton picked up a facial injury from Fernandinho’s flaying elbow and the physio had to come on. Albrighton was incensed by the degree of force applied by the Brazilian.

Riyad Mahrez took a penalty for the Foxes in the 76th minute but Rob Madley ruled it out as the Algerian slipped to the floor despite the ball bobbling into the net.

Ndidi’s 90th minute shot felled Nicolas Otamendi who put his body on the line to block the rocket.

Jesus was replaced by Jesus Navas in the 94th minute, the fourth of the seven minutes added time.
