Ndidi Stars, Iheanacho Subbed On, Vardy Red-Carded As Leicester Pip Wolves

By Adeboye Amosu:

Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, was involved for the entire 90 minutes as 10-man Leicester City picked their first win of the campaign following a 2-0 home win against Wolverhampton Wanderers in their Premier League clash on Saturday, reports Completesportsnigeria. com.

Ndidi’s international teammate, Kelechi Iheanacho came in for James Maddison eight minutes from time.

Wolves defender Matt Doherty conceded an own goal in the 29th minute, while Maddison scored the second on the dot of half time.

Leicester City were reduced to 10-men on the hour mark when Jamie Vardy was sent off for a bookable offence.

At the Wembley Stadium, London Tottenham Hotspur recorded their second win of the season by edging out Fulham 3-1.

Lucas Moura, Kevin Trippier and Harry Kane were all on target for the home team, while Aleksandr Mitrovic got Fulham’s only goal of the encounter.

Everton also beat Southampton 2-1 at the Goodison Park Stadium, Liverpool.

Theo Walcott opened scoring for the Toffees in the 15th minute, while Brazilian forward, Richarlison added the second a minute after the half hour mark, his third goal of the campaign.

Danny Ings reduced the deficit for Southampton in the 52nd minute.

At the London Stadium, West Ham United lost 2-1 at home against Bournemouth.

Marko Arnautovic put West Ham ahead in the 37th minute but the visitors scored twice in the second half through Callum Wilson and Steve Cook to go home with a win.

  • Kelechi Iheanacho : a season of breakthrough or heartache ahead?

Much talked about on this forum in heated debates not lacking in passionate opinions, views and predictions; Kelechi Iheanacho is definitely a striker of passionate interest to many a Super Eagles fans.

The U-17 world cup winner had a pre-season to remember for Leicester scoring goals for fun but the question on many lips is will he carry this on to the season proper.

Whilst his qualities are undeniable, I think Iheanacho will have to settle for starting mostly from the bench with many of his first-team appearances (and goals) expected largely to come from negligible Cup competitions.

I came to this conclusion from answering two questions I posed myself : who is a threat to Iheanacho and who is Iheanacho a threat to in Leicester starting 11?

Iheanacho is no threat to Gray or Albrighton out wide and he is no threat to Vardy as the top striker (if neither injured nor suspended).

Now the greatest threat to Iheanacho is that man called James Maddison.

Rating Maddison – who has now reportedly caught the attention of England manager Gareth Southgate – on today’s match James Sharpe wrote on Leicester City Live.co.uk: “Once again, City’s creative heartbeat. Marked his home debut with a goal.”

The young Englishman also had a fantastic match against Manchester United in their first league match.

Early signs are that Maddison is preferred to Iheanacho as the main support striker behind Vardy.

So,the success or otherwise of Iheanacho’s 2018/19 season hinges on his ability to give Maddison a run for his money and prove that he can also be a ” creative heartbeat” in the final third for Leicester.

    • I don’t think Iheanacho and Maddison play the same position. Leicester changed the formation to play with only one striker and Vardy is the preferred striker. Maddison is a midfielder. Vardy got a red card so Iheanacho should have a chance.

I was also wondering myself. Kelechi plays as a striker or support striker in a 2 pronged attack. He has never played as an attacking midfielder for Leicester. James Maddison is an attacking midfielder and it won’t be fitting to compare Kelechi to him.

He had his chance in the first game but fumbled. Vardy came from the bench and sored.

I don’t blame the coach for giving him a role on the bench. He has to sit up or be loaned to a championship side…

Iheanacho is a talented player of his kind but his life style is his greatest enemy in his football career. It’s obvious fact that the life of a footballer outside the field counts a lot but some never like us when we see it and say it exactly the way we saw it.
He should learn from Ronaldo discipline on and off the pitch.
I saw him at Abuja national stadium prior to Nigeria vs Zambia first World Cup qualifying match. The way he walked pass you tells you all about his personality.

I ve said before  and I would say it again iheanacho does not merit eagles invitation based on his current form, the guy parties too much, he needs to get serious or be shipped out of EPL soon.

    • In order of results/form, K Iheanacho is like 7th or 8th best for the Super Eagles. Just ahead of Ighalo (who cannot score against decent opposition. Can only score against Chinese players.
Akinyemi Adeleke (IK Start Norway) Henry Onyekuru (Galatasaray) Anthony Nwakaeme (Trabsonspor), Olanrewaju Kayode (Shaktar Donetsk) Ahmed Musa (Nasser) and Lanre Kehinde (Ankaragucu Turkey) are all producing better than him

Just look at the leagues and clubs those players you ranked ahead of him plays. Lord have mercy! If you can rate players that plays in Norway, Saudi, Ukraine and the likes ahead of a player who plays in the premier league then you too Sabi football. I’m sure Kelechi will have an outstanding season and he hasn’t done nothing wrong so far. I know for sure that he will score goals in the double digits this season as he had done over the last few years.

Just because a footballer refused to greet you and walk away. That has officially meant he has a bad lifestyle LMAO!! I laugh in Swahili and Chinese at the same time.

    • One day, you will have to teach me how to laugh in Chinese and Swahili at the same time.

I am still learning how to laugh in Spanish with no joy. Lol

Do have a pleasant week ahead.
