    A Must Read:

Ref: Coach Gernot Rohr & Nff leadership.

The Super Eagles Coaching crew did a brilliant job putting its 28 man list together.
We commend the Crew & NFF for their continued hard work in a bid to deliver the best Super Eagles WC participation till date.
However, a careful & incisive review of the called-up names shows that the list is 97% complete for real business heading to the WC proper.
We strongly believe that the Super Eagles of Nigeria would be the darling team of the tournament & the team to beat.
We have waited for this chance since 1994.
We were robbed of the opportunity to finish in top 3 position due to inexperience. It was our first Senior World Cup outing and a baptism of fire of some sort.. Expectations were very high. It turned out sour.
That tournament left many Nigerians totally broken. It meant so much for the fans.
The Atlanta ’96 Men’s Olympic gold medal victory did not, & could not assuage the pains many still carry with them. Multiple victories at global youth levels & in Africa were not good enough to rub off, or heal the deep wounds inflicted by that early ouster of ’94.
However, today, smiles are returning back to the faces of Nigerians. We can see the light of hope again.
A killer team is emerging in Africa & about to be unleashed on the World. It is the current Super Eagles team.
The NFF leadership & Coach Gernot Rohr are turning this into another memorable and unforgettable WC experience for Nigeria & Africa.
Eagles need just two (2) additions to its final selection, barring injuries, to be good to go, and enough to lift the world cup, every other thing being equal.
A top class goalkeeper & a top 9 striker are all Super Eagles desperately need now.
    We have found them.
A first choice safe hands in goal is needed in Carl Ikeme, soon to rejoin the crew (when fit) as expressed by the Coach.
Or, resummon Austin Ejide back to the team for May crucial friendly.
Eagles first choice goalkeeper needs a quality backup.
    Suggested:
    Goalkeeping: 3
    1) Carl Ikeme, (A. Ejide)
    2) Francis Uzoho,
    3) Ikechukwu Ezenwa.
    Reserve:
    Daniel Akpeyi.
    This completes the Goalkeeping selection.
    Attack:
    First Choice Striker, (Top 9)
    *****
NAC Breda, Holland, ‘Goals king’ Cyriel Dessers.
This is the joker in the pack.
This is the hottest & most clinical Nigerian top 9 currently.
He is a complete striker; a combination of brains, skill & finesse.
He is pacy on and off the ball. This young hitman is a goal scoring sensation in dutch top flight where he made goalscoring act as simple as fixing house chores.
There is nothing left to describe him.
I have not seen a Nigerian top 9 player as gifted in this generation of players as CY.
He is neat, precise, quick & totally lethal.
He also knows how to celebrate his exploits in style. I love this boy.
He will bring back joy to Super Eagles, & much more so to millions of soccer crazy Nigerian fans.
This is the MAN. If Nigeria must win the world cup, or stake a viable challenge for it, this is the guy that must lead the lines to make that dream come true.
Modern football demands the application of several formations particularly in tournaments where you wish to excel.
GR knows that very well & would need to trim down his squad & ring it around players who can be deployed in multiple roles, to suite the occasion.
It may be too early, though but we can safely say that some SE attackers evaluated are too lackadaisical, predictable, lacking dynamism, and cannot offer much at this level.
Such should make way for others. No disrespect.
    Suggested team: 23
    Goalkeeping: 3
    Defence: 7
    Midfield: 7
    Attack: 6.
My concentration (in this article) right now is on SE Midfield & Attack positions.
    1) Midfield: 7.
The Super Eagles midfield, as presently constituted from the release, holds the edge, with versatile ‘hatchetman’ Uche Agbo being the last addition.
This is the best possible technical “Gra-gra” team that Super Eagles can muster on parade today.
This is our engine room & heartbeat of the team.
This is where Coaches’ tactics are interpreted & executed.
This is where the disruption & breakdown of opposing teams are contemplated & carried out.
A good coach knows that matches are won & lost in the midfield.
Our’s is a balanced, strong & ruthless midfield that can withstand the stretch, grit & grind of opposing teams, as well as crowd pressure to come out unscathed, heads high, and on top & over the best teams of the world.
Barring Injury & loss of form.
    My Pick:
    Mikel John Obi (C)
    Joel Obi
    Onazi Ogenyi
    Wilfred Ndidi
    Oghenekaro Etebo
    John Ogu
    Uche Agbo.

    2) Attack: 6.
This is the decisive unit where chances are sorted & buried.
All 32 teams of the WC tournament are winners in their own rights & would be well prepared to minimize errors, and reduce scoring chances of opposing teams as much as they possibly can.
So, glaring chances will be rare & far in between at the tournament. However, a good team can prise open a tight defence, create & put away half chances.
This is where players in the mould of Junior Ajayi is an added value. He will be a revelation at the WC if selected.
Again, this is where intelligent & visionary attackers are needed to do the job.
Without any doubt Nigeria have some.
Barring Injury & loss of form.
    My pick:
    Kelechi Iheanacho
    Alex Iwobi
    Victor Moses
    Moses Simon
    Junior Ajayi
    Cyriel Dessers.

    Reserves:
    Ahmed MUSA
    Odion Ighalo.
This Super Eagles’ attack on current form is ruthless & capable of achieving the unthinkable.
With this team, these boys, I clearly foresee goals, goals & more goals.
You cannot have it better than this one. This team can win the CUP.
God on our side, anything is possible..
    Good luck, Nigeria!

Dessers, who has not featured for any of the Belgian national teams despite his invitation to the U21s, considers the chance of playing for Nigeria as a nice proposition.

He recently joined Eredivisie side, FC Utrecht from NAC Breda where he scored 29 goals in the regular season and play-offs.

The Striker told Belgian online site voetbal24.be that,”I’m concentrating on Utrecht now, but if something happens with Nigeria, that would be nice.

“I have to be realistic. Competition with Belgium is very big with Lukaku, Batshuayi, Origi, Benteke and now Dimata. They are all Still young.

“In Nigeria there are also top players, but maybe there I will be given a shot,” Dessers opined.

Even though your write up is nice, let’s always get our facts right before mentioning names. You should have mentioned the number of games Cyril Dessers have started this season and the number of goals he has scored till date. Talk of exposure, experience and goals, he is not close to the Ighalo. Another thing is you left Ighalo and Ahmed Musa out, am sorry to say this but thank God you are not the coach, if not, I dont see us qualifying from the group stage. You can’t neglect team chemistry, these players have been together for long and they understand the team better. Dropping them and bringing players without international experience may affect the team’s morale. World Cup is a bigger competition and not a friendly match so we should wait until the competition is over and then we can talk about him and others.
      Thank you

  • What are the coaches waiting for???? This guy from what I have just seen is a class of its own.PLEASE PLEASE GET HIM at any cost and immediately for that matter…..What about UDUOKHAI IN GERMANY…??

  • Guys cyriel dessers scored those goals when he was in division 2 in Holland.this season he has not scored,he is an average player he is not starting so I don’t see d hype abt this guy.

@Tony, figures don’t lie.. You have not checked your facts, but u were quick to dish out false information to tarnish a player’s good efforts.
Cyriel Dessers currently plays for FC Utrecht in Dutch Eredivisie. The team presently occupies 4th place on the log.
Cyriel made his switch from NAC Breda in 2015/16 where he notched 34 goals in 40 league matches.
This current season he has been limited to 2714 minutes, and 15 starts, in all competitions but has continued from where he left off last season, plundering 12 goals & 3 assists already.
Check these records, they are all on the website.
      Who is lying? Why?
Enemies of Nigeria & Super Eagles are also working against the team’s success.
      This is not unexpected.
@Tony, stop spreading falsehood here, it won’t help the course of the team. Aside, it will damage ur reputation as a football commentator.
      Check the facts..

Even if he is playing in division 2, he will be a good addition to the team. Moreover, Echijele and Ola Aina are equally in division 2 and still they are part of the team. How about Moses Simon, who is playing in Belgium, but how many goals does he have to show? NB I am not condemning Moses but trying make a point please. The issue is we don’t have a good number 9 in the squad and this guy is doing well. I can see Hope was saying that he has 12 goals and 3 assist in division, which is a good statistics. I therefore want to believe that he will be a good asset to the team.

  • @tony, so u think that home base player, Gabriel is better than him?

  • In Holland this season. How many goals has Cyriel Desser scored for his team? I want to know how prolific he is in front of goal.

  • John .D 3 months ago

What is GR waiting for,get this guy for us now.

  • Rohr, please waste no time. Invite this guy to the SE. He will drill in goals.

  • Hope Odianosen 3 months ago

Oga Tony,,,,,Cyriel Dessers has 12 goals and 3 assists so far in all competitions dis season for Utrech despite struggling wit form. So he is good enough to be part of d Eagles squard becos he is d only classic NO.9 we can find around at d moment,,,,,beside, he is a Belgian tru his father and has indicated interest to play 4 Nigeria ahead of Belgium.

  • Omo9ja 3 months ago

I have been saying this for so long but Rohr did not listen to me. This guy call Desser is a kind of strker will need in Eagles team. How about Paul Onuchi? What about Adi? He just recovered from injury and he should be ready before the world cup. However, Eagles coaches are not ready to try these guys. We all shouting calling their names everyday but i think completefootball.com hasn’t done enough. They need to get in touch with coach Rohr and they have to let him knows that, there are good players out there who are better than some players in the current Super Eagles team. But politics plays a lot in our football. Sorry ooo my people but the truth is bitter though. If we really want to win this year world, the coach have no choice but to give these players a chance. Just a chance. Secondly, our players should learn how to play against referees. And lastly, no sentiment In the final selection. You could imagine that, seeing Akpeyi in that list means that, in the end, incompetent players will make their ways to the world cup. Hmmm 9ja for show. Only God can help us in this nation. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • @Omo 9ja, You’re totally off-point as for me. Try editing your post. UMAR SADIQ(Rio 2016 Nigerian Striker) is far better than this Cyril Desser you guys are all here clamouring in Holland presently. Since Umar Sadiq moved on loan to NAC Breda he’s been outstanding and unstoppable with his physique even Van persie and other notable names in Holland attested to that. Am sure if Rohr will try considering a Striker from Holland presently,It will surely be Umar Sadiq. So, Cyrill Desser fans plzz try and be mute cuz the guy has even lost form sef.

  • Edoman of New Jersey, USA. 3 months ago

Couch. Be warn. No Cyriel Dessers, no strong Nigerian team for Russia.

Cyriel Dessers is the best No. 9 for eagles right now.
    Check the facts..

  • Dessers is not a starter for Utrecht,if he was that good y isn’t he starting.

    • @Tony, God bless you o. Some people here clamouring for Cyril Dessers call up to the National team just because they saw others post. The same way people were Shouting Paul Onuachu, What about him now??? No Goals again. I follow his team every weekend and he’s not scoring again. Plzz My people let not judge players on Week-in,Week-out performance. Thanks

  • And dude don’t even compare him with m.simon,Simon no b him mate,@beni I never said Gabriel was better, all I am saying is that the guy is an average player so no need for the hype u guys are giving to him.u think this guy will bench iheanacho or ighalo.i will pick sadiq umar ahead of dessers

  • Most people clamoring for him only saw his YouTube videos when he was at breda in division 2.this seahe hasn’t been dat prolific.

  • @omonaija u think Rohr don’t know about him.g.rohr has his scouts,he knows players we don’t even know.xo pls we should let dis man do his job

  • Don’t know what is wrong with Nigerians. Everyone seems to be the coach. They will not mind their business always seems to know more than the coach. See how they are clamouring for Dresser as if they are his coach. mtcheew. Please leave The coach alone to do his job and stop imposing players that will not make any difference to the team on him at this critical time. Our present team is good enough to do well at the competition. Let’s just continue to support them with our prayers.

  • They are shouting Dresser this that… but they did not pray for mother luck. Without luck one can do nothing in football. Brasil always have a good team but we all saw what happened to them at d last world cup despite the fact that they were hosting. If it is God’s will and our time couple with good determination, commitment, good motivation and luck our team will get to where God destine to get to at the tournament. please let’s stop to distract d coaching crew by all his noise for a particular player to be included rather pray for God wisdom and guidance for him to select the best leg for team. I wish Nigeria all the best.

#*Greetings to all for a lively debate over suitability of Cyriel “Golden Boy” Dessers for a Super Eagles WC spot.
The pro & con debaters have made valid points from individual perspectives.
Psychplogists say 6 & 9 are same figure depending on your angle of view.
The debate is about his quality which is not in doubt.
That he scores great goals in bi-digital figures each season is also not in doubt. 34 / 40 is an excellent score for a Div 2.
And, 12 + 3 assists in current ’17/’18 is equally great result.
Where many disagree is why has his playing time been limited.
Some think he is an average player. I doubt it.
His profile in club website & other channels didn’t rate him low. He is said to have no known weaknesses, in one of his reviews.
Several reasons might be adduced for his not playing regularly, like injury, form, Coaches tactics, health, environment, team policy, Coach’s preference for another.. etc. Certainly not for quality.
The Super Eagles Coach has the final say over choice of players to invite. What we do here is to give feedbacks as Nigerians, which are also read and considered by the Coaching Crew. Don’t undermine these conversations, they are discussed at the boardroom too.
Did you know these facts about WC ’94 Super Eagles celebrated Stars?
Rasheed Yekini was at Victoria Setubal, Div 2, Portugal before USA 94. He was leading scorer with 34 goals in all Competition.
Emmanuel Amuneke was in Zamalek, Egypt.
Other stars of ’94 from lower leagues but who turned out good are as follows:
    1) Thompson Oliha – Africa Sports
    2) Austin Eguavoen. – K.V. Kortrijk (2)
    3) Benedict Iroha –
    Vitesse Arnhem (2)
    4) Victor Ikpeba & Sunday Oliseh – R.F.C Liege. Etc.
Three (3) of the names mentioned above here won Africa player of the year for themselves in 1993, 1994 & 1995.
Please, let’s do more research & increase the quality of our debate & contributions.
    Kudos!
