Brazil star Neymar could make his long awaited return from injury when the Selecao face Super Eagles’ 2018 FIFA World Cup Group D opponent, Croatia, in an international friendly at Anfield on Sunday.
Both Croatia and Brazil are using the friendly as part of their preparations for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
Neymar has been out since injuring his foot in a league match for Paris St Germain back in February.
According to Reuters, the Brazilian Football Confederation stated that the former Barcelona star will start from the bench against Croatia.
However, the duo of Renato Augusto and Douglas Costa will miss the warm-up friendly against Croatia in England due to injury.
Bayern Munich forward Costa will be in the squad to Liverpool but will not play in Sunday’s match due to a thigh strain.
Augusto who plays for Beijing Guoan in the Chinese Super League, who has been a regular starter under coach Tite, will stay in London to have physiotherapy on his injured left knee.
Croatia will kick off their Group D World Cup campaign against Nigeria on June 16 in Kaliningrad.
They will also face Argentina and debutant Iceland also in the same Group.
