The Dream Team VI may have to make do with the home based players and the handful of overseas based players that have arrived the team’s camp so far ahead of the qualifiers for the 2015 All Africa Games against Gabon in February 2015.
Majority of the 47 invited overseas based players may not make the camp due to club commitments.
General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Musa Amadu says that the foreign clubs are under no obligation to release the players since the camping exercise doesn’t fall under any of the FIFA free windows.
“When we are talking about the invitations of overseas based players to camps, these clubs are not obliged to release these players.
“It has to fall within the FIFA window and we need to make this clarification absolutely clear that clubs abroad are not obliged to release players for camping and trainings or for matches that are not within the FIFA calendar,” he told SL10.ng.
This will come as a huge blow to coach Samson Siasia, as he continues to prepare for the All Africa Games qualifiers, with only a handful of the invited overseas based players already in camp.
