–Seyi Akinwunmi says U-23 players will be well monitored

Vice President of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Bar. Seyi Akinwunmi has told Complete Sports that the current board of the country’s football governing body will do everything possible to ensure that age cheat is totally eradicated in Nigerian football, saying the screening exercise of the National U-23 Eagles will be well monitored.
Speaking to Complete Sports yesterday, the Lagos State Football Association boss said the Amaju Pinnick led board is well committed to football development in Nigeria and will not tolerate any act that will disrupt or affect the programme they have for the round leather game.
“The truth is that it is never a surprise to anyone when you talk about age cheat in football but I want you to understand that the current board of the Nigeria Football Federation will not tolerate that and whoever is indulging in this should know that we are in a new era and we are not going to allow that to happen”, begins the Lagos based football administrator .
“Like the U-17 team, we expect any player in that category to be in school and for the U-23 Eagles which you rightly mentioned, I will tell you that there is no over age player in the team but that will not stop there, we are monitoring the team and we are also going to carry out investigation about every player to ascertain that the players we have in the team are truly U-23 players.
“The coaches and parents of these players must be ready to cooperate with us and if anyone is found indulging in age cheat in Nigerian football, I must tell you that this board will not take it easy with that person and we will make sure that the person is punished for that act.
“We are also going to rely on the press to assist us in this fight against age cheat, we may not get it 100% at the start but I must tell you that we are going to work really hard to make sure that it does not exist in our football.
Akinwunmi however called on all stakeholders in Nigerian football to support the FA in the bid to eradicate age cheat in Nigerian football.
