NFF: No Cause For Alam Over Eagles’ Losses In Friendlies

NFF: No Cause For Alam Over Eagles’ Losses In Friendlies

By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:
The Nigeria Football Federation says the two recent losses by the Super Eagles in international friendly games should not make the team’s faithful panic the ahead of the 2018 World Cup billed to kick off on Thursday, June 14 in Russia.

General Secretary of the federation, Dr Sanusi Mohammed, tried to calm tensed nerves soon after the Super Eagles followed an earlier 2-1 loss to England with a lone goal defeat to Czech Republic in Austria on Wednesday. He insisted the team will respond positively to the losses when the 2018 World Cup starts.

“We are not worried by these defeats suffered in friendly games. These are friendly games and they are meant to try new tactics and blend the team, the results don’t really matter because I know our boys were not at their best. There is no cause for alarm, the Super Eagles will bounce back, Sanusi told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“You know the boys are not giving their best because they don’t want to sustain injury before the start of the World Cup. They are playing safe and I am sure they will go full blast when they face Croatia next week.

“The NFF have done their part in preparing the team for the World Cup, it is now left for the them to reciprocate the gesture by getting results in Russia. Nigerians should believe that the team will deliver in Russia.”

    My Review:
    CZECH REP. 1 – 0 NIGERIA.

Nigerians are miffed; understandably in fits of rage over another loss by the Super Eagles.
GR however firmly stated that he is unmoved by the result, that what actually counts is the results in Russia.
I totally agree with the gaffer.
In modern football, a departure from the 80s & 90s as we know in Nigeria, scouts are employed to monitor formations & tactics of opposing teams before big tournaments as the Mundial.
Nigeria also have scouts after Argentina, Croatia & Iceland but not many are aware of this.
No modern day coach is bent on winning friendlies at all cost with his tactics when the event for which they are preparing is stil way ahead.
A good coach would devise his own strategies to win. Rohr has his plans.
Nigerians are used to winning even if it won’t serve any purpose.
This is a new dawn for Nigeria football and fans must change the old-fashioned mindset and embrace the new trend.
Did you know that our group opponents detailed scouts to spy on all Eagles’ matches?
Scouts were swarming all over team training camps, hotels and match venues to observe & jot down notes on every detail they can muster about the Nigerian team?
They were at Krasnodar, Russia for Argentina – Nigeria clash, Wroclaw in Poland, Hive in London for Serbia, Portharcourt for DR Congo, Wembley for England and now Austria for Czech Republic. Haba!
If diehard fans carry so much bitterness & frustration for team’s lacklustre displays then the aim is achieved.
Scouts also would be armed wit the wrong information & knowledge about SE’s strength.
This is the strategy going forward.
Rohr has done excellently well to keep fielding players out of positions, & trying other unuseful formations to delude & scam the spies on his tail..yet building his team.
Now they can go in to close camping to strategize, away from prying eyes of scouts.
Of what use will it be winning all friendlies, making fans happy, but crashing out of tournament early?
Gernot Rohr enjoys mind-games and has succeeded at it.
Rohr was Director of sports for Germany, ex- coach of Bordeaux, Nice, Ajaccio etc..
This is an intelligent & tactical wizard who is as crafty and deceptive as the game deserves.
I am absolutely confident that Super Eagles will wowed the world.
Even Jose Mourhino said that much.
    We have seen nothing yet..
Don’t believe all what you see of Eagles at play, they are fables.
My technical review, Czechs – Nigeria match is in four parts, covering goalkeeping, defence, midfield & attacking line..

    1) Goalkeeping:
Uzoho is our best glove; he is quickly coming up but still guilty of school-boy errors. He must build confidence to overcome those mistakes and seemingly jumpy nerves, or Nigeria would always concede a goal.
    5/10.

    2) Defence:
Our players were literally scattered & ambitious joining the attack.
The entire backline stretched itself doing so. It was a tactical one: a decoy.
You will never find this at the WC proper or get bombed.
Idowu, Balogun, Troost, and Tyrone were excellent. Shehu is a decoy.
Idowu moved up front as wing back and was a huge threat but final balls were let down.
This Dude is the real deal! He would be massive after the close-camp drills.
    Aggregate Score: 6/10

    3) Midfield:
The introduction of Ndidi alongside Mikel & Ogu brought depth to SE’s play.
    Etobo was rested.
They worked off their socks and deservedly string several decent passes together. This looked very promising especially in the second period.
    Aggregate Score: 6/10.

    4) Attack:
Iwobi, Moses & Ighalo were lively all the time.
Late on Musa, Iheanacho & Simmy were brought in what looked like a disjointed combination. For tactical reasons this arrangement was perfect. A decoy.
Ighalo has failed to score for Nigeria since his lone strike in 4-0 routing of Cameroon.
He has gone 6 matches without a goal, & merely 4 in 18 matches for Eagles.
His starting role is gone for good, quote me.
    Aggregate Score: 3/10.

    M y Counsel:
+ Dead balls were a huge concern
+ Slow starts could spell doom
+ SE must convert 2/3 of set pieces
    + Protect the rear
+ One touch football in opponents half is the magic we need.

    Overall Rating: 4/10.
The purpose for these friendlies has been achieved and the team can now start in close camp to examine, analyse, strategize and find solutions to breakdown each opponent’s SWOT profile.
While many are already calling for heads to roll, others are more cautious in taking a tough position.
    For the record:
#Nigeria lost important friendlies leading to 1994 WC were the world stood at “Attention” for its brilliance.
    # Nigeria in 1998 lost 0-1 to Germany, 0-3 to Yugoslavia & 1-5 to Holland before the 3-2 annihilation of Spain.
It was the Spanish team’s first loss in 33 games, over 3years period.
#Argentina fell 1-6 to Spain, Germany 0-2 to Austria leading to Russia.
    Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.
I am Super Eagles No.1 fan & critic.
Let us wait for the Croatian – Nigerian match billed for 16th June.
    Finally:
I read comments of distraught & woes from supposedly ardent SE’s fans on this platform and hav wandered at their lack of depth.
Meaning, they only follow wit their heart, not wit their head.
Support the crew and the team!
Don’t be afraid to BET on SE to shock the World, bcos they will.
    Go Naija!

Nice write up bro, am glad we still hv Nigerians that understands the real insight of this thing… #SoarSuperEagles

@Pablo9ja, thank you so much for your write-up, it shows you really have understanding of the game. I hope this will calm down all nerves. God bless you.

    • You have spoken the truth; there are scouts monitoring our team, players, formation and other technical inputs are been monitored. A good coach must be sensitive to this and not reveal his anus, otherwise you are gone.

Nwobi played in an usual position yesterday, as well as other players.

I agree with you totally but I feel Mikel should be moved back to defensive midfield and ogu back to the bench. Then we move Iwobi to Attacking Midfield (10) and Ahmed Musa to the wings and Moses back to right wing. (Playing in the Defensive Midfield does not stop Mikel from throwing long passes.

    To God be the glory!!!

I want to use this medium to greet CSN, NFF, coaches of the Super Eagles and of course my Forum mates. Good job to each and everyone of us. We only have one goal, we wants our Super Eagles fly higher like never before.

    Ahhhhh…. my people calm down.

As the world cup is around the corner, everyone is getting prepared to see our darling Super Eagles doing very well at the tournament.

My advice to you all, do not right off the team yet. It’s 50-50 chance. But one thing is certain, is idea we make it out of the group or we go home.

I can tell you guys that the coach knows what he is doing and he will upset some big name at this year world cup.

Coach Rohr is very smart. I repeat, he is a smart coach who doesn’t want to exposed all of his tactics before the tournament.

However, some of us are getting confused but this is why He, coach Rohr refused to use 3-5-2 information.
For now, the coach is putting huge pressure on our opponents believe it or not, they are so concerned about Nigeria now.

The only worry I have now is luck and God Marcy. I know that God will favour us.

Another thing is FIFA official, Referees. They know that Nigeria is going to do very well at this year world cup and they will do whatever it takes to stop our beloved Super Eagles.

Like I have said before, do not put too much hope on this team. Even, coach Rohr confirmed it that his team is not ready for world cup yet. The team is tired. For sure, they will get some rest before our first match. All the same, let’s support our team and so that they will bring us joy comes on Saturday.

The coach might left out some good players in his final list but we knew that this is Nigeria.

“LOWE LOWE LA NLULU AGIDIGBO, OLOGBO NIJO, OMARAN LONMO. ORO MI NLO BI OWE BUT OWEKO RARA”. “A WORD IS ENOUGH FOR THE WISE”.

No tension my people. God bless Nigeria!!!

  • No comment for now, up until on 16/06/2018. Thank God for other nations that made up the world cup. I’ll always watch good football. 0

  • It is really true bro about your write up, SE fans all Over de glove should think positive to Nja. up super eagle !!!!!

  • Let us not deceive ourselves this team is not going to survive the first round, the coach made a serious mistake for not opening up the team for more talents to fight for shirts. He concentrated all his efforts on bringing in German born Nigerians to the detriment of home grown footballers scattered all over the World. There are holes in the team that could have been easily blocked if the coach had done his job of REAL SCOUTING OF PLAYERS. There are some players that are well known who he snubbed and many more who are not well known but have the talents to make the Super Eagles real super.

Dreamers continue to dream, how can a coach goes to a major tournament with just one slow old creative midfielder?

  • @Sunnyb the same slow old creative player were used during the qualifiers and he delivered. Stop these unnecessary criticism it doesn’t worth it. Ghana lost 5-0 to Saudi Arabia in a friendly game before 2010 world cup and end up the best Africa representative at the competition. Nigeria will do well am optimistic.

  • Sunnyb 5 months ago

Bro Tayo, I feel u Bro, but the truth must be told, Rohr needs to be criticized, a good coach would have replaced Simon with another skillful speedster. We have them, imoh, Kalu, adeghenro. The man is going to World Cup with just one creative midfielder, Bro I’m sorry I can’t support mediocrity. Nigerians should ask questions, do have any scouting systems ?
