NFF Official: Eagles Stars Not Keen On AFCON Due To Ebola

An official of the Nigeria Football Federation has revealed that it came to their knowledge that some players were not comfortable with the idea of participating at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in January due to fears over the Ebola virus.

The official, who pleaded for anonymity, added that he strongly believes the unwillingness to take part in the championship contributed to the lacklustre display by some of the players who showed no hunger and desire in the qualification matches.

“It did come to our knowledge that some of them had fears of contracting the virus in the Africa Nations Cup, in fact some of them came out publicly to say they wish CAF would go ahead and postpone the events because they won’t be comfortable taking part in the Championship due to Ebola virus.

That is why I believe some of them were not being serious intentionally because how can reigning champions play the way they did, it’s terrible,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Eagles manager,Stephen Keshi who was brought back on the insistence of President Goodluck Jonathan to oversee the remaining two qualifiers is yet leave his post, despite hinting that he would support and pray for whoever is his successor after the 2-2 draw with South Africa in Akwa Ibom, which  ended Nigeria’s dreams of retaining their crown in Equatorial Guinea.

Please Mr Man you should find something else to say, don’t use Ebola as an excuse, is those our players are more than those players that qualified their country for the nation cup? Ebola case didn’t yet spreading like this when Congo beat them in our own backyard 3-2. Keshi is not a good coach period, and he should just walk away now before we will break head.

Keshi has played more games as a coach than any other coach. How many did he win? At the world cup finals in Brazil, he played 4 games, won 1, drew 1 and lost 2. Where was the Ebola in that tournament? Who ever cares should keep seeing Ebola and excuses, while I see incompetence and disguised dedication from coach Keshi. Yes, he is dedicated to his stomach alone, not our country.

Today, players did not play to my instruction. Tomorrow, they had too much respect for the opponents. Next day, they didn’t take their chances, they are just a new team, we are still rebuilding, Nigerians should be patient, and so on and so forth.

As soon as he was reinstated, the first thing he did was to ask that those who are criticizing him should be removed or else the Eagles might be distracted. Thank God he got everything he asked for before the last two games including chartered airplane. He even got a brand new stadium, or else he would have blame the grass. Keshi himself does not even believe in his multitude of excuses any more. No man is bigger than the whole country, therefore Keshi most go with his apologies if he has any in his character.

  • You guys are not serious with comment. since the time you have been changing coach. which coach won nations cup for you. Siasia didn’t qualified us to nations cup yet you ask for his head and he was sack.

Keshi came in he qualified you and won the nations cup, even then you already asking for his sack before he bit cotedovoir with there best player in europe and won the nations cup.
Please nigerians need to learn how to manage people not to sack every wood that is not good before you now, you removed the good one. only coach i know he can handle Super eagles except Keshi is Westerhof and if Keshi says is not continue.
this is good talk, because i didnt support you guys. thats evil taught by removing Keshi. now you call Siasia back after you have sack him and also Amodu after you have sacked him sometimes years back. what you need now is Keshi he has learn from his mistakes.

Nigerian lets giving our support and forget asking for his sack.

  • Football is a game that you win some, draw some and loss some. You cannot win all the time. Nigerians should have the spirit of sportmanship. We should start playing. Friedly matches and raise a formidable team that will play together in quality friendlly matches with counties that have won the. World cup and have a strong football culture. We should stop blaming Keshi. And let him correct his mistakes. He is human and bound to make mistate. World class coaches do make mistakes also

  • Animal talk. u you dey fool

  • whoever made this ebola statement should be sacked for insulting nigerians,i think siasia is a better coach than keshi.i strongly oppose hiring of a foreign coach.gbam.
